According to Variety, viewers were terrified by the bone-cracking and chest-bursting violence during a sneak peek into the upcoming Alien: Romulus. Directed by Fede Álvarez, the film still managed to instill the fear that Ridley Scott’s 1979 film did to the audiences of that generation. Ever since CinemaCon, fans have been convinced that Álvarez could create wonders with an R-rated project.

Álvarez also found his way into the radar of Marvel fans. These fans have the perfect project for the director to go full-crazy with his R-rated violence. Fans suggested that Kevin Feige hired him to direct the rumored Midnight Suns project featuring all of Marvel’s supernatural heroes. Marvel scooper @MyTimeToShineH recently revealed that the studio is interested in Álvarez too (via @MarvelNewsFilms).

The Uruguayan filmmaker is also famous for his other English language projects like Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe. One fan wanted Marvel Studio to make the Midnight Suns film R-rated and give Álvarez complete creative freedom. Another fan shared that the film would be “nuts” with Álvarez at the helm. One fan shared that both Michael Giacchino and Álvarez were great directors for the project.

One fan shared his optimism that if Alien: Romulus turned out to be a massive hit, Feige would surely hire him into the MCU. Another fan sided more with the original rumors of Giacchino directing the film. Some of the fan reactions read:

Fede Álvarez’s upcoming film in the Alien franchise will feature Cailee Spaeny of Priscilla and Civil War fame in the lead. The young cast also includes Upgraded fame Archie Renaux and Superman fame Isabela Merced. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 16, 2024.

The Midnight Suns (or Midnight Sons) project was first teased at SDCC 2021 (via Reddit). Industry insider Daniel Richtman stated that a Midnight Suns project is in early development at Marvel Studios in February. He also suggested the studio was looking for Michael Giacchino as the director after his brilliant work with the critically acclaimed special Werewolf by Night.

The comic version of Midnight Sons predominantly featured Ghostriders Danny Ketch and Johnny Blaze, Blade, and Morbius among other characters. The MCU version could feature Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Blade, Agatha Harkness, Black Knight from Eternals, and Man-Thing. The film could also introduce the Ghost Rider character, who’s a pretty important part of the team.

Midnight Suns became more popular after the tactical role-playing game of the same name was released in 2022 by Firaxis Games. The game also featured Marvel’s supernatural team as central players while other properties like the Avengers, X-Men, and Runaways also appeared in the gameplay.
