One shocking theory concerning Marvel Studios’ upcoming Vision Quest series perhaps create the perfect opportunity for Elizabeth Olsen’s MCU return.

Elizabeth Olsen returns to the MCU in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Vision Quest series, but not as the Scarlet Witch, according to a shocking new Phase 6 theory. Since debuting as Wanda Maximoff in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Elizabeth Olsen has had a lengthy and tumultuous career in the MCU. Throughout her eight appearances in live-action and animation, Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch went from HYDRA volunteer to Avenger, and from sitcom-style housewife to outright villain, though Maximoff’s descent into darkness led to a moment of redemption in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that saw her tragically killed off.

The MCU’s Phase 4 saw Wanda Maximoff finally embrace her role as the Scarlet Witch, following her battle against fellow witch Agatha Harkness in her Westview Hex in WandaVision. Unfortunately, the loss of Vision and her children, Billy and Tommy, caused Maximoff’s transformation into a villain, as she sought to find another reality where her children were alive and wellWandaVision’s ending may have led directly to the Scarlet Witch’s eventual sacrifice in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but also set up the new White Vision’s upcoming MCU series, which could bring Elizabeth Olsen back to the MCU.

Vision Could Build A New Family In Vision Quest

White Vision being woken up by SWORD in WandaVision

WandaVision reintroduced Vision to the MCU following his demise in Avengers: Infinity War, but soon revealed him to be nothing more than a construct of Wanda Maximoff’s own grief. Secretly, however, SWORD had rebuilt the original Vision’s body, and sent him into the Westview Hex to eliminate the Scarlet Witch. After an intellectual battle with the other Vision, White Vision’s memories were restored, and he disappeared to locations unknown to discover himself. This directly sets up Marvel Studios’ upcoming Vision Quest series, which will bring Paul Bettany back as the new White Vision, though details about the series are unclear.

Marvel Comics’ Vision Quest event spanned several issues of West Coast Avengers in 1985, and formed the inspiration behind a lot of WandaVision’s story in the MCU. It seems the MCU’s Vision Quest series will be based on a different Marvel Comics storyline, perhaps Tom King and Mike Del Mundo’s Vision series that released in 2015. This story saw Vision, who wanted to experience being human, create his own synthezoid family, including a wife, Virginia, and two twin children, Viv and Vin. This bears resemblance to WandaVision’s sitcom-style world created by the Scarlet Witch, but could have a darker twist.

Elizabeth Olsen Can Return To The MCU As Virginia Vision

One major theory posed by Reddit user AdditionalInitial727 suggests that this could provide the perfect opportunity for Elizabeth Olsen to return to the MCU. However, Olsen may not be returning as Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch in Vision Quest, but could actually be brought back as Virginia, Vision’s synthezoid wife. In the MCU, Wanda Maximoff is the only love that Vision has ever known, so, in an effort to rediscover himself and try to be normal, he could design Virginia in her shape. This would put a twisted spin on WandaVision’s own storyline, and could have major repercussions for the MCU.

The Scarlet Witch has been confirmed to be dead after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though there have been theories regarding her potential return to the MCU. Audiences may be expecting her to somehow be resurrected, or perhaps a variant could take her place. However, Elizabeth Olsen’s potential return in Vision Quest could put a darker twist on this, particularly since Marvel Comics’ Vision series ended tragically for Virginia, and saw Vision rediscovering his past romance with the real Scarlet Witch, creating perhaps the perfect character study for the troubled White Vision in the MCU.

How Else Could Elizabeth Olsen Return To The MCU?

The Scarlet Witch sacrificed herself at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in order to destroy the Darkhold and Mount Wundagore, and Marvel Studios has subsequently confirmed her death. However, theories have suggested that Elizabeth Olsen could reprise the role in any number of upcoming projects, including Agatha, Blade, Doctor Strange 3, or an as-yet-unconfirmed solo Scarlet Witch movie. As spinoffs from WandaVisionAgatha or Vision Quest make the most sense for Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch to return to the MCU, though it seems the actor is currently enjoying her break from Marvel Studios’ ever-growing franchise.
