Tom Hardy’s story as Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom, may be coming to an end in Venom: The Last Dance, meaning a much-wanted cameo needs to happen soon.
One major MCU cameo has become even more important after the reveal of the official title for Venom: The Last Dance. Back in 2018, Tom Hardy confirmed that he had signed on to star as Eddie Brock, the host of the alien symbiote Venom, in three Sony Spider-Man Universe projects. After 2018’s Venom and 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage, work began on a third installment in December 2021, which is now expected to release on October 25, 2024. In March, Venom 3 was officially revealed to be titled The Last Dance, hinting at the potential ending of Venom’s story.
As well as Tom Hardy returning as Eddie Brock, Venom: The Last Dance’s cast also includes the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple and Clark Backo, though none of their roles have yet been revealed. It’s unclear whether Michelle Williams’ Anne Weying will return, or perhaps even Stephen Graham’s Patrick Mulligan, after Venom: Let There Be Carnage teased his survival and transformation. The storyline for Venom: The Last Dance hasn’t yet been revealed, but after Eddie Brock’s experience in the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home’s mid-credits scene, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe may be expanding, but this could be too late.
Venom 3 Will Likely End Tom Hardy’s Story As The SSU’s Venom
The fact that Venom 3 has been titled The Last Dance suggests that this may be the final adventure for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Tom Hardy previously noted that he had only signed on for three projects in the SSU, and that contract will seemingly end with the release of Venom: The Last Dance, so it’s unclear what the future holds for Eddie Brock’s Venom. There has been speculation that The Last Dance may only be Hardy’s final solo project, allowing him to return as Venom in future projects, but this is yet to be confirmed.
Venom 3 May Be This Version Of The Character’s Last Chance To Meet Spider-Man
If Venom: The Last Dance is set to be Tom Hardy’s final project as the alien symbiote, this could be the last chance for this iteration of Venom to meet Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. Venom is one of Spider-Man’s most iconic adversaries in Marvel Comics, and Sony has received some backlash for not bringing the symbiote and the wall-crawler together. In fact, the version of Peter Parker in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe didn’t make his first appearance until 2024’s Madame Web, which explored the future Spider-Man’s birth, but the pressure is on for Venom: The Last Dance to deliver this much-wanted battle.
There has been speculation that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could make an appearance in Venom: The Last Dance, particularly after Tom Hardy’s experience in the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home. This potential cameo is even more important now, as Venom: The Last Dance is running the risk of ending Eddie Brock’s storyline without ever having him battle his archenemy. Of course, a piece of the Venom symbiote remained in the MCU in No Way Home, which could tease a battle between Spider-Man and Venom in the MCU’s future, but Tom Hardy’s iteration of the villain may never get this chance.
Introducing Spider-Man After Venom’s SSU Exit Would Add Insult To Injury
Currently, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe only has two upcoming projects, with both Kraven the Hunter and Venom: The Last Dance releasing in 2024. Out of these, Venom is certainly the most closely connected to Spider-Man in Marvel Comics, which means that Venom: The Last Dance would be the most appropriate place for Spider-Man to finally make his debut in the SSU. This means that Peter Parker potentially being introduced after Venom: The Last Dance would be a major insult to the legendary Spider-Man villain, particularly since Tom Hardy’s passion for the Venom role certainly constitutes him battling his most significant adversary.
Indeed, it’s possible that Peter Parker’s Spider-Man could make an appearance prior to Venom: The Last Dance by appearing in Kraven the Hunter instead. Set to release on August 30, 2024, Kraven the Hunter will introduce Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular villain, who is the subject of some of Spider-Man’s most memorable storylines in Marvel Comics, including one in which Kraven succeeds in vanquishing his heroic enemy. While it’s possible Spider-Man could appear in Kraven the Hunter, there’s been no hint of this occurring, meaning Venom: The Last Dance is the final opportunity for Spider-Man to make his SSU debut.
Venom: The Last Dance is scheduled for release on October 25, 2024, shortly after Kraven the Hunter , which will premiere on August 30.
