Dogpool: How Britain’s ugliest dog became Marvel’s newest super hero

UK's 'ugliest dog' becomes Hollywood royalty — starring in 'Deadpool & Wolverine'

Deadpool & Wolverine is going strong at the box office. The film has brought a fresh lease of life to the MCU and excitement around superhero films all over again. Fans have welcomed back not just Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to the MCU, but also Peggy, the Dogpool.

Peggy, a pug-Chinese crested cross was crowned in 2023 as ‘Britain’s Ugliest Dog’. The pug hails from East Yorkshire and has quite the following on Instagram.

As Dogpool, Peggy stars in MCU’s latest film as one of the versions of Deadpool, the lead anti-hero played by Ryan Reynolds. The film features Reynolds’ character showering love and the pug reciprocating by licking Deadpool’s face.

A celebrity in her own right with nearly 75,000 Instagram followers, Peggy’s Instagram page features numerous posts of her in full costume as a canine variant of the ‘merc with the mouth’ – or, in this case, bark.

Peggy reportedly wrapped filming of Deadpool & Wolverine on January 24 and celebrated with a nap, as well as leaving actor Ryan Reynolds “a very special warm, personal gift in his trailer”.

In an action-packed snippet, Dogpool can be seen giving Deadpool a slobbery kiss as Wolverine looks on with disgust. So much so that Reynolds has nominated himself and Peggy for the upcoming MTV Movie Awards in the Best Kiss category.

Reynolds was the one who had spotted Peggy first via social media. “We did a global search, and Peggy beat out lots of contestants because of her sheer ugliness,” said director Shawn Levy, according to Marvel’s official website.

Peggy has since gotten used to Hollywood life and even walked the red carpet at the Deadpool & Wolverine worldwide premiere in New York City.
