Deadpool & Wolverine’s MCU Future Chances Addressed By Hugh Jackman & Ryan Reynolds

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds may have just teased that there is more in store for them in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Deadpool & Wolverine. Phase 5 is about to have its biggest installment, as Deadpool & Wolverine will be a crucial chapter for The Multiverse Saga. Not only is Ryan Reynolds finally joining the MCU timeline, but the movie’s premise also sees Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine for the first time since 2017’s Logan, even though he is playing a variant of the X-Men hero.

In the Empire Magazine summer edition, which features a big spotlight on the Deadpool & Wolverine cast, the two Marvel veterans were asked what the chances are that there will be more projects for them in the MCU after the summer blockbuster. While not giving a flat-out “Yes,” Jackman and Reynolds’ following response appears to be very careful and intentionally ambiguous, seemingly hinting at more to come:

Ryan Reynolds: I’m very nervous talking to you.

Hugh Jackman: I’ve never been so scared of what’s coming out of my mouth.

Deadpool & Wolverine Would Be Perfect For 1 Upcoming MCU Movie

Anyone who has followed the MCU movie timeline since its inception will be fully aware that cryptic responses like that from actors mean that they are under NDAs and can’t disclose what else they are doing after said film or TV show. If Jackman and Reynolds didn’t have anything lined up with Marvel Studios after Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems likely they would have simply been able to answer the question by Empire Magazine. Since Disney is committing to rely more on recognizable brands and characters within their IPs, including the MCU, it shouldn’t come as a shock that Wade Wilson and Logan could be back sooner rather than later.

The one MCU project that would make sense the most for Deadpool and Wolverine to show up in after the Phase 5 film is as part of the Avengers: Secret Wars cast. Since its initial announcement, Avengers: Secret Wars has been hyped to be one of the biggest superhero projects of this generation. Having both Reynolds’ Deadpool and Jackman as any version of Wolverine alongside other Marvel characters, both within and outside the MCU, it is bound to be an instant box office success, and also well received by audiences.

Given the amount of secrecy surrounding Deadpool & Wolverine, it would make a lot of sense if the Phase 5 film somehow sets up where the duo could show up next in the MCU. Following Reynolds and Jackman’s cryptic response, that possibility is more likely than ever, as there is clearly more going on than they are able to reveal. With less than two months to go, the MCU audience will soon have a lot of answers about the impact Deadpool & Wolverine will have on the franchise and the rest of The Multiverse Saga.
