Hugh Jackman As Wolverine In Yellow Costume With Mask, Headpool Winking And Ryan Reynolds As Deadpool In Deadpool & Wolverine

The Deadpool & Wolverine box office has passed the entire earnings of DC’s Joker in three weeks, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. Deadpool & Wolverine is the 34th MCU film and the first starring X-Men characters after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox. The movie had an amazing opening, becoming the first R-rated film to pass $200 million in its first weekend. A few weeks later, Deadpool & Wolverine broke $1 billion, becoming the second R-rated film to reach that milestone.

The Marvel sequel’s worldwide total reached $1.086 billion on Thursday night, passing Joker‘s $1.079 billion. The studio released a trailer in celebration, which can be viewed below.

Marvel is currently outpacing DC in billion-dollar films with 11, while DC has 4. Deadpool 3‘s success comes at a time when Marvel needed it, and it shows audiences are still in love with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

Every Box Office Record Deadpool & Wolverine Has Broken

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s latest record proves how well the film is doing worldwide. It remained the no. 1 film at the box office for three weeks straight but was almost toppled by Blake Lively’s It Ends With Us. With the addition of its record of highest-grossing R-rated film, Deadpool 3 holds seven box office records that can be seen in the list below:

Biggest Domestic Opening Weekend In July
Biggest Domestic & Worldwide R-Rated Opening Weekend

Biggest Domestic Day For R-Rated Movies
Biggest Domestic Day For A July Movie
Biggest Opening Weekend For Lead Stars & Director
Biggest Domestic & Worldwide Opening Weekend Of 2024
Highest-Grossing R-Rated Film Domestically & Worldwide

On the domestic front, Deadpool & Wolverine has made $516.7 million, beating The Passion of the Christ as the highest-grossing R-Rated film domestically. For its July records, the film beat 2019’s The Lion King, but it still has a long way to go before it reaches that film’s global total. It’s also the highest-grossing movie featuring X-Men characters, as no film in Fox’s franchise ever crossed $1 billion. It also passed another Disney film, Inside Out 2, for the biggest opening weekend in 2024.

However, Inside Out 2‘s worldwide total is at $1.59 billion, so Deadpool 3 needs a miracle to become the highest-grossing movie this year. Its chances are unlikely, but it doesn’t have much competition. It could get dethroned this weekend by Alien: Romulus, but August is still relatively light on major blockbusters. Its biggest upcoming threat is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which releases Sept. 6 and could halt the Marvel film’s momentum. However, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s box office is still impressive, and it could break more records before its theatrical run ends.
