Two major characters could debut in the MCU’s Phase 5 thanks to a theory that links to a line of dialog from Deadpool & Wolverine’s official trailer.
Deadpool & Wolverine‘s official trailer may hint at two characters debuting in the MCU’s Phase 5 thanks to a clever Marvel theory. More so than the teaser trailer for the film, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s official trailer teased more about the upcoming story. Given that Deadpool & Wolverine is the only Marvel movie releasing in 2024 as part of the MCU, these story reveals were highly anticipated as the film is the only extension of the Multiverse Saga until 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World.
As hinted at by the official trailer for the upcoming MCU movie, Deadpool & Wolverine will center around the titular mutant duo teaming up to fight a multiversal threat. Taking Wade and Logan to MCU locations such as the TVA and the Void from Loki, the story will pit the two against Deadpool & Wolverine‘s villain Cassandra Nova. While the trailer makes this basic story premise relatively clear, one interesting line that is seemingly spoken between Wolverine and Deadpool could hint at two other major characters appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine‘s story in an interesting subversion.
Deadpool & Wolverine’s Trailer Hints At X-23 And Kidpool
Two younger variants of Deadpool and Wolverine may have been hinted at in the official trailer.
Midway through Deadpool & Wolverine‘s official trailer, Wade can be heard pleading to Logan for the latter’s help. Deadpool insists that Logan’s past as an X-Man means he knows how to save universes, before Wolverine replies “Trust me, kid, I’m no hero.” The way the trailer is cut together implies that Wolverine is speaking this line to Deadpool, though it seems strange for Logan – who is of a similar age to Wade – to refer to his ally as “kid.”
This could imply that two younger variants of the titular heroes will appear in the film, X-23 and Kidpool. X-23 appeared in 2017’s Logan, portrayed by Dafne Keen. While Kidpool has never appeared in the extensive Fox X-Men movie timeline, the MCU multiverse could offer the perfect opportunity for his appearance. With both X-23 and Kidpool being younger characters, it would make sense for one – or both – of these characters to plead with Logan as Deadpool is heard doing in the trailer, with Wolverine’s reply actually being directed towards them.
How Else Deadpool & Wolverine Has Set Up X-23 And Kidpool
Deadpool & Wolverine has set a precedent to include variants of the titular mutants.
This theory naturally links to the question of how else Deadpool & Wolverine may have teased appearances of X-23 and/or Kidpool. Concerning the latter, the obscure comic book character of Dogpool is seen in the trailer. Dogpool is a member of the Deadpool Corps in Marvel Comics, a team that consists of Deadpool variants. If Dogpool is in the film, it stands to reason that other Deadpool Corps members will appear, one of whom being Kidpool as is the case in Marvel Comics.
Walker Scobell, who starred in The Adam Project with Ryan Reynolds from Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy, has been rumored to appear as Kidpool.
With X-23 – and also Kidpool – the film’s multiversal premises sets up her appearance. The Void shown in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer includes lots of MCU references as endless characters from the multiverse are often sent there. The Deadpool & Wolverine trailer’s Marvel Easter eggs proved this, from Ant-Man’s helmet to X-Men characters like Lady Deathstrike and Azazel. All of this supports the idea of a variant of X-23 turning up in Deadpool & Wolverine, meaning she could be the person the latter is talking to in the trailer.
