A new fan-made concept poster teases a mysterious Avengers team forming in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s MCU debut is set to feature a huge number of cameo appearances from characters from both Fox’s X-Men franchise and the MCU itself. Not all of these have been revealed, making 2024’s upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine even more exciting, but recent teases from Reynolds may have hinted at some of these characters coming together as the MCU’s weirdest, but perhaps strongest, superhero team.

There is speculation that Deadpool and Wolverine will be forming an Avengers team of their own in the MCU’s Phase 5, comprising heroes from various realities across the multiverse. This has been teased in a concept poster shared by pvilly_artist, which imagines Deadpool and Wolverine holding up a mysterious blue Avengers flag.

This Avengers flag, adorned with the Anarchist symbol, was previously shared by Ryan Reynolds, spurring Avengers theories. The flag could have several meanings, but it would be great to see a new Avengers team form in Deadpool & Wolverine.

What Does Deadpool & Wolverine’s Avengers Flag Mean?

Ryan Reynolds’ initial Avengers flag tease was reinforced by an image of him in a hat also decorated with this mysterious logo. This has spurred major theories regarding Deadpool & Wolverine’s possible multiversal Avengers team, which could include the likes of Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter, and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, among many others. Deadpool & Wolverine could set up this multiversal Avengers team to be a key element of Phase 6’s Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted this same Avengers flag signifying the base of operations of Cassandra Nova in Deadpool & Wolverine’s trailers. This could imply that, instead of a new multiversal Avengers team forming, the rag-tag variants who already reside in the Void at the End of Time could consider themselves to be the “Anarchist Avengers”. Led by Cassandra Nova, this group is already known to consist of the likes of Azazel, Pyro, Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth, and Toad, forming one of the weirdest superpowered teams in the history of the MCU.

The fact that this strange Avengers flag was shared twice by Ryan Reynolds could also be hinting at Deadpool’s possible involvement in the MCU’s next Avengers movies. While Hugh Jackman’s future as Wolverine is uncertain, Ryan Reynolds is expected to be joining the MCU permanently in Deadpool & Wolverine, meaning he could easily make an appearance in Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret WarsDeadpool has briefly served in the Avengers team in Marvel Comics, so it would be great to see the Merc with a Mouth team up with his new superhero allies in the MCU’s future.
