It’s been revealed that Deadpool & Wolverine will see Wade Wilson getting brand-new swords, and they may pose a problem for Wolverine himself. Thanks to exclusive new footage released at CinemaCon 2024, new details about Deadpool and his gear have come to light. This includes a special request the Merc With The Mouth makes following his recruitment by the TVA.

With Screen Rant having been in attendance at Cinema-Con, descriptions of the exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine footage confirm that Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) has retired from his life as a mercenary. However, the TVA picks up him during his birthday party, seeking his help to save the Sacred Timeline and offering him the chance to join “the greatest universe” (aka the MCU). Convinced to wear the red suit once again, Deadpool is also getting some new blades that could potentially do some real damage to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine who will serve as Wade’s new partner.

Deadpool Gets Adamantium Katanas In Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool's New Adamantium Swords in Deadpool & Wolverine

According to the new Deadpool & Wolverine footage, Wade Wilson will be getting new adamantium katanas along with his new suit and gear. Provided by the TVA, Wade thanks Mister Paradox directly in the CinemaCon footage, the TVA agent seen recruiting Deadpool in the first trailer (played by Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen). As such, it seems as though Deadpool wants to be able to go toe to toe with Wolverine himself.

An indestructible metal, adamantium is the fictional alloy in Marvel Comics and in Fox’s various X-Men movies that was used during the Weapon X experiments that were done to Wolverine. Thanks to his mutant healing factor, only Wolverine could survive the bonding process that covered his bones and claws with the impressive metal. It’s what’s made Wolverine such an effective and dangerous hero both on the page and on-screen. However, one has to wonder if Deadpool’s new adamantium swords will be able to harm Logan in their upcoming MCU movie.

X-Men Movie History Proved Adamantium Can Hurt Wolverine

X-Men Origins and Logan

Logan getting his adamantium skeleton in X-Men Origins Wolverine

As seen in past X-Men movies from Fox, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has been harmed by adamantium before with lasting effects. In 2009’s X-Men Origins: WolverineCol. William Stryker shot Logan in the head with an adamantium bullet. This resulted in Logan losing several of his memories indefinitely. Although his brain healed, the memories were lost due to the lasting brain damage that had broken through his adamantium-covered skull.

Likewise, 2017’s Logan confirmed that Wolverine’s healing factor had gradually been slowing down and diminishing due to adamantium poisoning his body. This confirmed that the very thing that made him stronger was also killing him. However, this still begs the question as to what would happen if Wolverine were to lose a limb or was beheaded by adamantium swords, though X-Men Origins does imply that Wolverine could easily heal from any cuts, having received his fair share from Ryan Reynolds’ more controversial Weapon XI Deadpool who was given adamantium blades embedded in his arms by the movie’s end.

Marvel Comics Showed Adamantium Can Kill Wolverine

It’s Possible To A Certain Extent

Marvel’s Wolverine was killed by adamantium in the past as seen in the original comics. In 2014’s Death of Wolverine, Logan was killed by Weapon X director Dr. Cornelius, wanting to take Wolverine’s power and create more living weapons. Wolverine naturally resisted his efforts, though it resulted in Logan’s body being covered head to toe by a vat of molten adamantium, encasing his entire body as it hardened (though he was naturally brought back to life years later).

That being said, it doesn’t seem Wolverine will need to worry much about Deadpool’s new swords in Deadpool & Wolverine. He should be able to heal just fine from any cuts or lacerations and even lost limbs if Wade can get through the joints in Logan’s adamantium skeleton. If anything, having adamantium swords is likely a means for Deadpool to be on par with his new partner’s claws (considering he already has his own healing factor). Furthermore, one could imagine that the katanas might serve as the foundation for a fun reference to the more controversial Deadpool from X-Men Origins.
