Daredevil and Kingpin

Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, opens up about how a massive storyline was almost revealed to him outside of his arc on Daredevil: Born Again. The story of Matt Murdock is far from over in the MCU timeline, as Born Again will bring back the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. With the Netflix-Marvel shows canon to the MCU, Daredevil: Born Again will continue one of the best Marvel TV eras.

At New York Comic Con 2024, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio spoke with Screen Rant’s own Joe Deckelmeier to preview the new MCU drama for Disney+. One of the questions for the Kingpin star was whether or not he could see himself acting as the Thanos for street-level heroes like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and even Spider-Man, which D’Onofrio is more than game to see happen. However, he also stressed that there is very little that they find out about their MCU arcs outside of Daredevil: Born Again, revealing how a major storyline was almost slipped to him recently, as he stated the following:

Vincent D’Onofrio: Yeah, I mean all of them. Bring them on. It’s interesting – listening to Charlie’s answers, he’s so spot on. One of the most interesting things about being in the MCU with these characters is we know so little about what the plan is. I know that might sound strange to people, but it’s really true. Just the other day, we were in a conversation with our writers, and one of them slipped and said something, and one of the bosses was on the Zoom.

I was like, “What?” [laughs] and they were both like, “What?” This particular boss who cares for the show a lot actually was like, “Nope, can’t talk about that now.” [I am like] “Can’t talk about what? What is going on.” If you want to know immediately, could it seem like something that had to do with something beyond our show? I don’t know. I literally have no idea.

What Vincent D’Onofrio’s Comments Mean For Kingpin In The MCU

Kingpin thinking about becoming Mayor in Echo

For the longest time, the MCU audience have been wanting to see more of Daredevil’s connectivity to the larger franchise. Outside of Cox’s cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Daredevil’s presence has mostly been through the new MCU TV shows, such as HawkeyeShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Echo. However, even though D’Onofrio’s comments didn’t reveal too many specifics, it is possible that he may have given the first clue to the Daredevil: Born Again show having ties to the MCU films that are coming up.

Daredevil: Born Again has been teasing the iconic Mayor Fisk storyline from the comics, where he ends up making superheroes and vigilantes outlawed in New York. If they are going in a similar direction as Devil’s Reign, it wouldn’t be shocking if his arc in the Disney+ show warrants Marvel Studios to start looking into other characters who may be affected by Cox and D’Onofrio’s new series. Whether or not they will let the Daredevil: Born Again cast know sooner rather than later is the bigger question, as whoever it was that almost let it slip to D’Onofrio clearly thought it was too early for them to know.

Our Take On Vincent D’Onofrio’s MCU Comments

Kingpin about to battle Matt Murdock in Daredevil season 1 finale

Based on the little that D’Onofrio was able to share with Screen Rantit will be exciting to see how Daredevil: Born Again eventually affects and gets affected by the overall MCU. It’s obvious that the MCU films should and will take advantage of Born Again at some point, but it’s just a matter of when that actually will happen. Perhaps as Daredevil: Born Again season 2 gets closer to starting production, the cast will get more detail about what lies ahead for them in the MCU after the series.

Daredevil. Born Again premieres on March 4 only on Disney+.
