Charlie Cox as Daredevil in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again TV series

Daredevil actor, Charlie Cox, confirms that Daredevil: Born Again will be different from the original show in one big way. The original Daredevil, produced by Netflix, ran from 2015 to 2018 and was part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Defenders saga. Daredevil: Born Again continues the character’s story and features the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Wilson Bethel as Bullseye.

In honor of the show’s panel at New York Comic Con, Charlie Cox spoke with Rotten Tomatoes to share some insight on Daredevil: Born Again. Following up on co-star D’Onofrio’s comments discussing how the Disney+ show would connect to the Netflix title, the star also confirmed it will be different in how it explores Fisk’s “behind-the-scenes” world, thus giving a new angle for the character. Check out what Cox said in the quote and video below:

Something that’s a bit different that, I feel like, we get a much deeper look behind the scenes of Fisk’s world than we have necessarily, in the past. And that is, I think, a different kind of way, which direction the show is taking, which is really exciting.

What Charlie Cox’s Comment Means For Daredevil: Born Again

Fisk’s Story Arc Will Be A Focus

Matt Murdock meets Wilson Fisk for the first time in Daredevil

Since Marvel Studios and Disney’s announcement about Cox’s return as Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again‘s cast, there have been a lot of questions about the connection between the upcoming title and Netflix’s title. Both Daredevil and Fisk have appeared in several MCU projects, including a brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and supporting spot in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, while Fisk was a villain in both Hawkeye and Echo . Cox’s comment suggests that Daredevil: Born Again will take a bigger interest in Fisk than the original show, which aligns with the villain’s cameo appearances in the MCU.

His comment also seems to tease Fisk’s story arc in Daredevil: Born Again. It seems that part of the upcoming show will focus on Fisk’s organization and his world, bringing something that fans hadn’t experienced in the original show to light. In the video, Fisk’s actor D’Onofrio further confirms that Daredevil: Born Again will be a combination of old and new, addressing rumors by teasing, “all of those things and more are true.”

There’s More to Know About Fisk

Wilson Fisk is a very complicated villain, especially with his association with Vanessa Fisk, who he married in the original Daredevil. As Kingpin, Fisk has immense power and money, but at the same time, he has a vulnerable side that he keeps to himself. The original Netflix show didn’t often delve too deep into the character, with his main focus on Murdock’s pain and struggle, save for a few flashbacks to his childhood living with his abusive parents.

It hardly feels like there’s more to explore about Murdock after three seasons, so shifting the focus to Fisk and his operation certainly gives fans something new to look forward to. With Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk both captured a more lighthearted side of Murdock, one of the concerns for Daredevil: Born Again is whether the show will follow the original’s gritty and hard vibe. The focus on the “behind-the-scenes” of Kingpin’s world puts the emphasis back on the street level, which is reassuring.

Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4.
