Daredevil: Born Again – Everything You Need to Know About the Release Date, Cast, Story & More

Details about Daredevil: Born Again have been revealed, with news about the MCU show’s cast, release info, and more being reported. The original Daredevil series premiered on Netflix in 2015 and followed Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) as he learned to balance his life as a lawyer and as Daredevil. The show was abruptly canceled in 2018 – which came as a surprise since it had high viewership and was critically acclaimed. Eventually, the series was brought onto Disney+ as the rights were reverted back to Marvel, which then gave the MCU a chance to create Daredevil: Born Again.

There was clearly a commitment to Cox’s version of Daredevil because Murdock began appearing in MCU properties in small roles, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home. Murdock cameos as both Peter Parker and Happy Hogan’s attorney. The lawyer continued his legal duties in two episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, becoming a romantic interest and friend to Jennifer Walters. Vincent D’Onofrio also reprised his role as Kingpin in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. These cameos have all but ensured that the Daredevil: Born Again cast will feature some interesting appearances, and will be a significant part of the MCU timeline overall.

A Brand-New TV Spot As The Release Date Approaches

As Daredevil: Born Again’s premiere date quickly approaches, Marvel Studios has begun the last bit of marketing push for the series, with a brand-new TV spot recently being released. What stands out in this TV spot, and most of the trailers that have already been shown, is the much darker tone than basically everything else in the MCU that came before. When it was announced that a Daredevil series was in the works by Marvel Studios, there was hesitation that it would go in a tonally different direction than the beloved original series.

Fortunately, that isn’t the case, and Daredevil: Born Again truly feels like the fourth season of the Netflix show with every new look Marvel Studios releases. With less than a month to go before Matt Murdock leads his own series once again, there is a lot to be excited about with the character and his first major inclusion in the MCU.

The Daredevil: Born Again cast has many exciting additions, but perhaps none as exciting as its main stars, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who will be returning as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk respectively, at very different points in their lives from where season three ended. Vanessa Fisk will be by Wilson’s side once again, with Ayelet Zurer reprising her role.

Other returning characters from the original series are Karen Page, Foggy Nelson, and Frank Castle, all being reprised by their previous actors, throwing any doubt that the series wouldn’t be a continuation away. Alongside them, the villain Muse will be featured in the show, but the actor for the character has yet to be revealed. Finally, Kamar de los Reyes will suit up as White Tiger, marking the first appearance of the character in the MCU.

Daredevil: Born Again Plot Details

Murdock Will Once Again Be Opposed By Fisk

Daredevil extending his baton in daredevil born again

Disney Studio’s D23 description of Daredevil: Born Again stated that, “Marvel Television’s “Daredevil: Born Again” catches up with Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, and his nemesis, Wilson Fisk, who’s pursuing his own political endeavors in New York.” Given the trailer, this looks to be the case, picking up threads from both the Netflix series, and Echo, which teased Fisk’s plans to gain political power in New York.

What stands out from the narrative so far, is how Murdock has seemingly not been Daredevil for a while, raising questions about how long it has been since his appearances in both She-Hulk and Echo. Either way, the series looks to follow Matt having to embrace his alter-ego once again, with new threats popping up in the city, and Wilson Fisk becoming the Kingpin of New York once more.

Empire Magazine released an exclusive interview with Charlie Cox, talking about the show’s connections to the original series as well as when it takes place. Charlie Cox reiterated the idea that Daredevil: Born Again would be a continuation of Daredevil, though it was initially conceived as a reboot of the character with Cox still in the role. He also mentions that “a few years have passed” since the finale of Daredevil with Matt Murdock in a different place mentally than he was before. Check out the full quotes below:

“There was talk early on about reinventing the whole thing, to see if Matt was a slightly different person. But it ended up more of a continuation. A lot of the history follows on. The relationships and dynamics set up in the previous seasons still exist.

A few years have passed. In that time, Matt, Foggy, and Karen have found a pretty good rhythm. Matt’s made peace with his role both as a lawyer and a vigilante. Then, of course, s*** hits the fan.”

Big Changes With Matt Murdock And Wilson Fisk

Daredevil in the church on Netflix

In October 2024, Marvel Entertainment uploaded a trailer revealing a number of upcoming Marvel Studios television projects for 2025. Among them was Daredevil: Born Again, which is the first bit of official footage released online for the new series. The teaser shows a number of returning characters, including Wilson Fisk and Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, as well as teasing a number of Daredevil fight scenes.

The main focus of this teaser is the relationship between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. The two have so much history together throughout the original Daredevil series and Marvel understands that, showing the two of them interacting in various settings, including sitting across from each other at the café.

What sticks out about the official trailer, aside from sporadic plot details and the return of beloved characters, is the overall tone of the series. It definitely feels like it fits right in with the previous three seasons of Daredevil, showing all the brutal violence and exhaustion that it was known for. It’s a good time to be a Daredevil fan with Daredevil: Born Again being the first lead project for Matt Murdock in the MCU.

Marvel Studios is in the final push of marketing for Daredevil: Born Again, and the recently released TV spot focuses on Matt Murdock as Daredevil, highlighting all the violence and action fans can expect once the show premieres. Given everything that has been shown so far, this series will be another brutal and violent chapter in the character’s story.

How Daredevil: Born Again Fits Into The MCU

He Could Team With The Avengers Or Reunite With She-Hulk

When Daredevil: Born Again was announced, there was a lot of talk about how it would continue to the story from the original series or not, and whether that was actually considered canon. Given that it looks to essentially be the fourth season, while taking the character in a new direction, it is safe to say that the Daredevil fans grew to love is not a variant at all. This raises the question about where Matt Murdock’s future in the MCU goes following his show that has already been greenlit for multiple seasons.

Having Daredevil team up with the Avengers, Spider-Man, and other characters has been the dream for fans since the Netflix show first premiered in 2015. Those dreams might actually be close to reality, as Charlie Cox recently opened up about whether the character will join the Avengers at some point or not. His comments indicate good things for not only Daredevil: Born Again, but the character’s future as a whole. His full answer is as follows:

“I think it’s more possible than it’s ever been, yeah. I would love to be in one of the Avengers films, or another Spider-Man, or something like that. For a couple of reasons. One, because over the years I have become a geeky fan of the character, and I weirdly, for the character’s sake, feel like it’d be really cool for him to get that kind of upgrade.

I would also just love it in terms of what it would do for my chances of getting other movie roles.”
