Dafne Keen Addresses X-23’s MCU Future After Deadpool & Wolverine Fans Demand Her Return

X-23 speaking to Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine

X-23 star Dafne Keen teases her potential extended future with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after her appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. Many of the biggest references made in Deadpool & Wolverine were to the events of 2017’s Logan, which marked the official end of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. While Jackman played a new variant in Deadpool & Wolverine, a major return from Logan ended up being Keen as Laura, a.k.a. X-23, showing the character fully grown up.

During an appearance on ComicBook’s Phase Zero Podcast, Keen opened up about whether or not she would be game to come back as Laura in future MCU movies. As Keen calls playing Laura “the biggest honor of my life,” the Logan actress is ready to get deeper with X-23 after her cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, sharing the following:

I would love to come back. I would pay them to come back. Playing Laura has been the biggest honor of my life. To me we’ve only scratched the surface with her since she’s such a complex character. She’s so cool, just from a fan’s standpoint.

The MCU Already Has The Perfect Storyline For Dafne Keen’s X-23 After Deadpool & Wolverine

X-Men teams in different eras in Marvel Comics art

The ending of Deadpool & Wolverine opened many new doors for several of the characters in its final scenes, including Laura. While time will tell when and if she will be brought back for future MCU projects, Marvel Studios has a golden opportunity with the character, as Keen could return for a very fitting storyline in the franchise. Even though The Multiverse Saga is the primary focus, many are looking towards the upcoming X-Men reboot that is currently in development.

According to rumors, the Avengers: Secret Wars story will supposedly lead to a soft reboot for the MCU, which may lead to the merging of various universes, potentially thus allowing a saga focused on mutants and the X-Men to unfold. As a new Wolverine will be needed for the franchise, the MCU could have Laura take on that title, leaning directly into the comics where she ends up carrying her father’s mantle. Given that Laura is still a young adult, the MCU could do a proper exploration of her journey as a hero while tying her to the X-Men reboot.

Another fun thing that the MCU could do with Laura as Wolverine is to still have Hugh Jackman’s new variant around after Deadpool & Wolverine. As this Logan could retire from the title, he could still serve as a mentor for Laura as the new Wolverine, thus allowing Jackman to still be part of the MCU. Hopefully, Marvel Studios will clarify sooner rather than later if Keen will have a future in the MCU after her return in Deadpool & Wolverine.
