Deadpool 3 and Loki hinting at Chris Evans’ return as Captain America?
The highly anticipated threequel to the Deadpool series, Deadpool & Wolverine, has breathed life into the dying MCU. And just as it has revived the franchise after a series of losses, it has also given birth to a number of theories. And these theories are not just limited to Deadpool’s own series, but even extend to other Marvel heroes, such as Captain America.
After Deadpool 3, one of the most anticipated projects in the MCU is Avengers: Secret Wars. Though it was announced quite some time ago, details about the plot and its characters have been kept under wraps. And there have been several speculations about the cast from the old MCU returning to the Avengers tie-up.
Deadpool 3 gives a hint about Captain America’s return?
Deadpool & Wolverine teasers and trailers have shown what we can expect from the upcoming installment in Deadpool’s saga. It will take chapters from Marvel’s dimension-hopping, time-shifting, and multiversal volume, with a heavy influence from the beloved TV series, Loki.
However, the story that has been set in the forthcoming movie makes one wonder – if someone as despicable as Deadpool can get recruited by the TVA, why can’t someone else? We have seen it happen before in Loki as well, where the Trickster god was brought in, which ultimately led to his redemption arc.
So if villains and anti-heroes are getting recruited, did the TVA also employ the help of a hero? There’s a good possibility! And that actually might give us a conclusive answer to Steve Rodgers’ Captain America saga.
How Steve Rogers gets recruited into the TVA
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, we see an Old Steve retiring his mantle of Captain America and bestowing both his title and his shield to his friend, Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson. But wait – where did he get the shield? Wasn’t it destroyed during the war? And what made him suddenly change his mind about coming back to his own timeline and spending the rest of his life with Peggy Carter?
Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s happy ending in Avengers: Endgame (2019)
That’s exactly where the TVA comes in. Secret Wars will be a dimension-breaking phenomenon, and will bring in characters from different universes, and possibly timelines. And if the TVA has to get involved, they will need all the help they can get. And the help might arrive in the form of the time-traveling Captain America.
We know that Steve is not someone to back out of a fight, especially if it is to save the world. The reformed TVA might’ve caught on to him when he was restoring the stones to their appropriate timeline, but instead of pruning him, enlisted his help to aid and possibly lead the heroes in Secret Wars.
This would also explain how he got his shield back, as the TVA might have a stock of them just like the Infinity Stones. Moreover, at the end of the war, the TVA might present a possibility to Steve, that he could live a normal life with Peggy, in his own timeline without disturbing it.
This theory does hold good weight, but everything is simply speculation until Marvel confirms it or reveals any details. Hopefully, the future Avengers movies will bring back the craze that pulled us to the theatres during MCU’s glory days.
Deadpool & Wolverine releases in theatres on July 26th, 2024.
