Captain America movies and shows continue to predict and have unique parallels with real-world events (including the recent Trump rally shooting). Whether they’re projects led by Steve Rogers’ Captain America or Sam Wilson who took on the mantle after Avengers: Endgame, Captain America movies are uniquely positioned more than most MCU features to tackle real-life issues and topics. To that end, it’s pretty bizarre how closely some projects have mirrored current events.
Beginning with Captain America: The First Avenger and its backdrop setting during WWII, the real-world parallels and connections have always been uniquely strong with this particular Marvel movie franchise, and films like Captain America: Civil War feature loose allegories regarding issues including government regulations and even gun violence. However, there are times when Captain America movies have bizarrely predicted real-world events, including the heinous assassination attempt on former President Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.
Captain America 4’s Ross Assassination Attempt Scene Came Out 2 Days Before The Trump Rally Shooting
During A Public Presentation At The White House
Only two days before the Trump rally shooting, Marvel Studios released its first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, the fourth movie in the Captain America franchise. Featuring Harrison Ford as the newly elected President Ross, a public presentation at the White House results in an assassination attempt on Ross himself, one that proves unsuccessful. As such, it’s not hard to draw parallels to what just happened on July 13th, 2024 in Pennsylvania with former President Trump.
Of course, it’s important to state that while plots of fiction have their entertainment place, any form of real-life political violence should always be condemned. Having said that, the similarities between the Brave New World trailer’s opening scene and the real-life events at the Trump rally are quite bizarre, both in their coincidence and recency. However, it’s not the first time that Captain America projects have been quasi-predictive of real-world events.
The Falcon & The Winter Soldier Cut A Pandemic-Related Subplot In 2020
Stopping A Fast-Spreading Disease
2021’s Falcon & The Winter Soldier on Disney+ saw Sam Wilson officially claiming the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers gave him his iconic shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame. However, it’s been confirmed that a Falcon and the Winter Soldier subplot involving a fast-spreading disease was ultimately cut in 2020. Of course, 2020 was when the world was caught in the real-life global pandemic due to the COVID-19 virus.
It’s been said by Falcon the Winter Soldier’s producer Malcom Spellman that the pandemic subplot wasn’t specifically cut because of real-world events. However, it’s probably for the best that it wasn’t included in the MCU series, seeing as how viewers probably were likely wanting an escape from the hard reality that was the global pandemic. However, the fact that the subplot was most likely written before the COVID-19 outbreak began in earnest is yet another bizarre example of Captain America projects being predictive.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier Tackled Observation Of US Citizens
Hydra’s Project Insight, Less Than A Year After Snowden Leaks
One of the biggest examples of a Captain America project seemingly predicting real-world events was the inclusion of HYDRA’s Project Insight in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Less than a year before the MCU movie’s release, the US experienced the Edward Snowden leaks regarding the NSA and the truth about how much the government was surveilling American citizens, an event that obviously magnified ongoing debates and controversies surrounding surveillance and the privacy of citizens’ information.
Then, 2014 features an MCU movie in which a major plot point surrounds a trio of Helicarriers armed and ready to take out future and exciting threats using predictive algorithms. Likewise, these algorithms were based on vast amounts of collected surveillance data. Seeing as how the movie script was more than likely written well before the 2013 Snowden leaks, it’s yet another example of the MCU’s Captain America movies providing yet another inadvertent prediction of real-world events and issues.
Captain America: Brave New World is set to release on February 14th, 2024 from Marvel Studios.
