Sam Wilson’s Captain America will get a new partner in 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World, one who could take on his unused Marvel Comics powers.

Sam Wilson’s new partner in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Captain America: Brave New World could be given some of his unused abilities from Marvel Comics. In the wake of the Infinity Saga’s conclusion, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson became the new Captain America of the MCU, following Steve Rogers’ retirement in Avengers: Endgame. 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Wilson team up with Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. the Winter Soldier, to protect Captain America’s legacy, and while Sam Wilson was initially hesitant to assume the position, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s finale saw him finally become Captain America.

Shortly after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s release, Anthony Mackie was confirmed to be returning to the big screen in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World, his first feature film adventure as Captain America. However, instead of teaming up again with Bucky Barnes, who will next be appearing in 2025’s Thunderbolts, Sam Wilson will get a new partner in Brave New World. Danny Ramirez debuted as Joaquín Torres in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a United States Air Force lieutenant who helped to take on the Flag Smashers, and who was teased as the MCU’s new Falcon.

Joaquín Torres Can Get Sam Wilson’s Missing Falcon Superpowers

Although Sam Wilson still uses a wing-suit as Captain America, he gifted his previous wing-suit to Joaquín Torres during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s penultimate episode, teasing the young lieutenant’s evolution into the Falcon. Joaquín Torres is expected to officially be announced as the MCU’s new Falcon in Captain America: Brave New World, which could see him gain some abilities that Sam Wilson routinely utilizes in Marvel Comics, but never managed to bring into the live-action MCU. Perhaps most notable is Sam Wilson’s empathic connection to his bird companion, Redwing, which is later extended to all manner of birds.

Redwing has been seen in the MCU, though the falcon from Marvel Comics was adapted into a mechanical extension of Sam Wilson’s wing-suit. A telepathic link to a bird would be far from the weirdest superpower in the MCU, so it’s possible that Joaquín Torres could get this honor in Captain America: Brave New World. This is even more possible as Torres’ own abilities in Marvel Comics may be too fantastical for the current state of the MCU, as Joaquín Torres gains his wings in the comics after an experiment by Dr. Karl Malus transforms him into a human-bird hybrid.

Why It’s Too Late To Give Captain America His Missing Marvel Superpowers In The MCU

Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson has already moved on from his days as the Falcon, and has taken up the more demanding role of Captain America in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. This means it perhaps wouldn’t make sense for him to now receive the abilities of Marvel Comics’ Falcon, and would make more sense for Joaquín Torres to receive these powers instead. Sam Wilson is currently on a new journey to discover what kind of Captain America he’ll become, but Captain America: Brave New World has the opportunity to develop Joaquín Torres, making him a more substantial fixture in the MCU.

Captain America: Brave New World is currently scheduled for release on February 14, 2025, as part of the MCU’s Phase 5.
