“But right now, I’m [past it]”: Mike Colter Refuses to Abandon His Hit Horror Show Just So He Can Make His Marvel Return as Luke Cage

Mike Colter refuses to return for a third season of Marvel’s Luke Cage if there’s a scheduling conflict with Evil.

Mike Colter and Evil Monster

From humble small screen beginnings to becoming one of the most recognizable faces in the entertainment industry, Mike Colter’s success as an actor has truly been phenomenal. The actor is renowned for his portrayal of Luke Cage in the Marvel show of the same name. The actor has portrayed the iconic role for two seasons.

Mike Colter became a household name for his portrayal of Luke Cage

However, it looks like the third season is going to be delayed indefinitely as the actor refuses to return to put on his superhero costume as he is enjoying his role in another TV series. Recently, Colter has opened up about how he has received immense success and fame in Evil, and he has decided to not return to the show until his expectations and production dates of the show align with his expectations.

Mike Colter States His Conditions to Return For The 3rd Season of Marvel’s Luke Cage

Mike Colter’s breakthrough role would be his iconic portrayal of Luke Cage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where his versatility and acting prowess truly resonated with the fans of the iconic character. However, the show that truly established him as one of the best actors in the entertainment industry is the horror TV series, Evil.

Evil TV Series added to Mike Colter's popularity for being one of the best horror shows

The show has featured his acting range and entertained its audience for 4 seasons. The show revolves around a priest-in-training, a forensic psychologist, and a contractor who investigates paranormal events for the Catholic Church. The show is immensely popular for being quite unnervingand it is easily one of the best horror shows created in recent times.

Both shows have played a huge role in the success of Colter’s acting career but the actor has chosen Evil over Luke Cage as he told ComicBook that he would return as the superhero “only if it doesn’t affect my schedule in a way that I can’t do another season of Evil.”

Mike Colter will return to reprise Luke Cage only if he is given a good script

However, his return would also depend on a good script and the idea that follows as he believes these two aspects are essential for the success of the third season of the show. He added, I mean, I would totally entertain a good script and idea that made sense.

However, he is not looking forward to reprising his superhero role, as he does not spend his nights reminiscing his time as Luke Cage, and mentioned how he is past the role.

Colter added, I don’t stay up at night thinking about it, nor do I recall it unless someone brings it up. But I enjoyed my time. I don’t look in the past. If something comes up, great, we’ll talk about it. But right now, I’m [past it].

Nevertheless, Marvel fans are disappointed as they tweet on social media about the indefinitely postponed show.

Marvel Fans Are Disappointed At The Comments Of Mike Colter

Mike Colter’s comments sent shockwaves across the Marvel fandom as a good script and idea are the two essential aspects of a successful show and his potential return for a third season. The news was shared by Agents of Fandom (@AgentsFandom) on X.

Fans react to Mike Colter's comments

Marvel fans came forward, and some criticized his comments, while others supported him as they believed a good plot would convince him to return, skyrocketing  the show’s popularity.

With Evil’s fifth season releasing on 23 May 2024, which also happens to be the last season of the horror series, the comments of the actor seem quite bizarre. However, Colter’s comments showcase that he will not compromise the Marvel show’s quality just for the sake of his return to the titular superhero role.
