It looks like Lady Deadpool will appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, and the creator of Marvel Comics’ Deadpool might have already revealed the casting decision 2 years ago. Lady Deadpool is a Deadpool variant and one of the core members of the Deadpool Corps in Marvel Comics along with Dogpool, a variant who is already confirmed to star in Deadpool & Wolverine. Confirmation of Dogpool’s involvement in November fueled rumors that Lady Deadpool would also debut due to their connection, which has picked up even more traction following the latest “Best Friends Day” trailer footage.

New Deadpool & Wolverine trailer footage revealed what appears to be a pair of legs belonging to Lady Deadpool in a slow-motion shot. As far as Deadpool & Wolverine cameo rumors go, Lady Deadpool is one of the most predictable, so it is no real surprise that the trailers have leaned into the speculation. Theories about who will portray Lady Deadpool have once again picked up steam in the wake of this shot, but one of the most popular picks may have already been heralded by Rob Liefeld.

Rob Liefeld Discussed Blake Lively Being Cast As Lady Deadpool In The Movies In 2022

A social media post (shared by @mcuscene on Twitter/X) by Rob Liefeld in March 2022 revealed that Lady Deadpool was specifically inspired by Blake Lively. He pitched the character to Marvel as a “stunning blonde” modeled off of Lively’s Serena Van Der Woodsen character in Gossip Girl, with the character being approved in 2010. He would later go on to meet Lively on the set of Deadpool and at the Golden Globes, ending his post by stating:

“If ever we are blessed with Lady Deadpool on screen I’m pretty certain Ms. Lively will have some say in the casting.

Whether the two discussed Lively being cast in a live-action version of the character isn’t clear, but it seems apparent that Lively is Liefeld’s first choice for the role. As is the case with most of the Deadpool & Wolverine details – especially upcoming cameos – the filmmakers have remained coy about whether Lady Deadpool is even slated to appear. This follows several months of dancing around rumors that Taylor Swift would also be starring in the movie – even as Lady Deadpool herself – though these rumors were recently put to bed.

Set photos revealing Ryan Reynolds in a Deadpool costume with long hair also stoked rumors that more Deadpool variants would appear in the movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Other Biggest Lady Deadpool Casting Has Been Officially Disproved

Rumors of Taylor Swift’s involvement in Deadpool & Wolverine have been among the most prevalent, but a report by Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Taylor Swift will not feature in Deadpool & Wolverine. The news came just moments after another promotional image featuring friendship bracelets – an accessory currently synonymous with Swift fandom and the Eras Tour – was released by Marvel via social media. Ultimately, however, it appears Deadpool & Wolverine is featuring friendship bracelets for their more traditional implications, rather than as a sign that Swift will be playing a central role.

This makes sense, given that featuring friendship bracelets so prominently would suggest that Taylor Swift’s role is bigger than it should be. While a cameo as Dazzler makes a lot of sense due to their undeniable resemblance and rampant fan demand, featuring Swift as Lady Deadpool would overshadow the titular characters with someone who may be beloved in real life but has very little to do with the Marvel movie nostalgia that Deadpool & Wolverine will be leaning into. For Lady Deadpool in particular, Lively is clearly the best prospective casting decision.

Lady Deadpool Being Blake Lively Would Be A Truly Great Casting Reveal

Even putting aside the fact that Lady Deadpool was specifically modeled on her, having Ryan Reynolds’ wife portray a variant of his now-iconic Marvel character is a stroke of genius. Their chemistry is self-evident, with years of witty banter shared over social media and beyond proving that the two could excel in comedic scenes together. None of that is to mention the plethora of fourth-wall-breaking quips that Deadpool could indulge in when Lively’s Lady Deadpool is revealed, including the time they shared on the set of Green Lantern, which Deadpool has already taken aim at in the past.

It is worth noting that the Deadpool & Wolverine filmmakers can sidestep rumors about Lively’s involvement a lot more easily than Taylor Swift. Seeing Lively in the vicinity of Reynolds on-set is entirely explicable given the two are married, while sightings of those involved with Deadpool & Wolverine around Taylor Swift are partly to blame for the rumors that she has been cast. Either way, it would feel like a wasted opportunity to not have the very person Lady Deadpool was based on appear in the role when the movie releases on July 25.
