Sam Raimi clears up Marvel Cinematic Universe rumors about him supposedly directing Avengers: Secret Wars. While it has had its ups and downs, The Multiverse Saga is still progressing forward, with several more films and TV shows set to explore the concept of alternative universes. As the MCU timeline is still building towards the end of Phase 5 before getting into Phase 6, there have been little to no updates on Avengers: Secret Wars up to this point.

After directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for Marvel Studios, there have been a number of rumors about Raimi being eyed to direct Avengers: Secret Wars. In a new The Wrap interview, the Spider-Man movie trilogy director took the opportunity to respond to the rumors when asked if Avengers: Secret Wars or any Marvel projects were coming up for him in the future, as Raimi said the following:

I don’t have any plans. But I would love it!

What Is Going On With Avengers: Secret Wars?

Secret Wars in Marvel Comics

With a major title like Avengers: Secret Wars, the MCU is clear set to be forever changed once The Multiverse Saga is over. However, there has been little movement on the massive Phase 6 installment as there is no director in place at this point. Even though Loki’s Michael Waldron is penning the scripts for both Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars, neither currently have a filmmaker in place.

One of the big factors in the lack of updates regarding the Avengers movies is likely due to the shake-up behind the scenes, as Jonathan Majors, who was playing The Multiverse Saga’s Kang, was fired by Marvel Studios. Following this, Kevin Feige and his creative team are likely trying to figure out where to go from here, whether it is recasting Kang or phasing him out of the story altogether. The Hollywood strikes from 2023 also forced Marvel Studios to have to delay the two Avengers films in the overall slate.

It wouldn’t be shocking if Avengers 5 simply serves as Avengers: Secret Wars – Part One and then leads into Avengers 6, which may help somewhat with the Kang situation by focusing more on the broader MCU multiverse plot-wise. If that is the case, that could justify why there have been few updates, as Waldron is perhaps retooling his screenplays to serve more directly as one complete story spread across two films. For now, time will tell when Marvel Studios is ready to announce more news for Avengers: Secret Wars.
