Avengers: The Kang Dynasty could possibly not end up being the title of the next Avengers movie, and if the Marvel Cinematic Universe chooses to move on from Kang the Conqueror, there is a perfect story for Avengers 5. The latest movie for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The film served as the finale of the Infinity Saga — with Spider-Man: Far From Home acting as its epilogue — which is a similar role to what one of the MCU’s upcoming movies for its premiere superhero team will be.

2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars will end the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Before that, a new version of the team will rise in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is set for a 2026 release. The movie is expected to feature Kang the Conqueror and/or the Council of Kangs going up against the Avengers. However, given Jonathan Majors’ firing from the MCU and Marvel Studios’ internal issues, there is a chance Avengers 5 could pivot from that idea. A version of a Marvel Comics story would be the perfect replacement for The Kang Dynasty in the next Avengers film.

Avengers: Siege Would Tie Up Many MCU Loose Ends

Siege Was Already Teased By An MCU Project

On Reddit, MCU fan TrpTrp26 shared an interesting theory that proposes a version of the comics’ “Siege” storyline as a possible Avengers movie, and the event would make for a great replacement for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty if Marvel Studios decides to move on from Kang. According to the theory, after the attempt of a Skrull takeover in Secret Invasion, humans would attack New Asgard, since the United States President incited rage against all alien species on Earth, with the Asgardians and other aliens finding asylum in Wakanda.

Then, the global forces would turn their attention to the advanced nation. An attack on Wakanda to take over the country’s Vibranium reserves would ensue. Wakanda and Talokan would use their newfound peace to serve as allies in the conflict, with Namor getting the war against the rest of the world that he wanted in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The theory goes on to mention multiple players who could be on each side of the war, with Sharon Carter against the aliens as the power broker and Emilia Clarke’s overpowered G’iah helping them against the rest of the world.

Avengers: Siege would then focus on a full-on World War. To help stop the conflict, Sam Wilson would assemble a new Avengers team to end the war. That setup would be perfect for Anthony Mackie’s character, continuing the political connotations that come with being Captain America, and giving him a major role in the MCU going forward. The Avengers movie would be able to touch on one of the MCU’s biggest recent issues, which are the many threads left hanging by projects. Due to the rapid release of MCU content, some characters and stories have gone unattended for years.

Avengers 5 May Move Away From Kang (But We Don’t Know For Sure)

The Movie’s Title Is Rumored To Have Changed

Despite Majors’ firing from the role of Kang the Conqueror and his variants, there has been no official announcement from Marvel Studios about a possible title change for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, Avengers 5‘s possible title change has come up in a series of rumors and reports, which say the film is now being described internally as simply Avengers 5, dropping The Kang Dynasty. While these are unsubstantiated rumors, they do line up with the timing for Avengers: Secret Wars writer Michael Waldron coming on board to rewrite Avengers 5‘s script.

For the moment, Avengers 5‘s official title remains The Kang Dynasty. If that situation were to change, it would most likely be a sign of a major swerve for Marvel Studios. From Loki season 1 to multiple other MCU projects, including Kang the Conqueror’s main villain role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel has shown that it was going all-in on the villain. Kang and his variants are expected to be the main force of possibly the next two Avengers movies, but a title change would signify a change of plans regarding Avengers 5‘s villain.

Why Avengers 5 Would Be Better Off Without Kang The Conqueror

The MCU Could Bring In Doctor Doom

While the MCU and both seasons of the excellent Loki did a lot of work to set up Kang the Conqueror and his variants as the main threats of the Multiverse Saga, Avengers 5 ditching the villain altogether would not be the franchise’s worst choice. Majors was incredible as Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, making the villain a menacing foe during the time he was onscreen. However, the villain being defeated by the Ant-Man family, with help from smart ants, led to many fans being let down.

With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Kang’s splashy MCU debut, underperforming at the box office, it would make sense for Marvel to consider pivoting away from its plans for the character. Adding to that, Majors was revealed to play all variants of Kang during the movie’s Council of Kangs scene, with the actor showing in Loki that he could make each of them unique. With Majors out, the MCU loses a lot of the excitement that his performances as the Kang variants brought.

Even if Marvel wants to keep Kang as the Multiverse Saga’s bad guy, using the time to let the character rest and recast the villain while making another character the main threat of Avengers 5 could be helpful for the franchise. Doctor Doom is someone who has appeared in reports as a possible alternative to Kang that has been discussed internally at Marvel. The villain has ties to Avengers: Secret Wars, which would make him taking over in Avengers 5, something many fans want, an easy deal.

Siege Can Be The Avengers Movie That Secret Invasion Should Have Been

Secret Invasion Being A Series Wasted Its Potential

Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to be a major multiverse event that will unite new MCU heroes and villains, as well as past players of the franchise — including the likes of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America — and actors from Marvel’s entire live-action history. The movie will be the culmination of the entire Multiverse Saga. However, that does not mean that Avengers 5 also had to go all in on the multiverse.

A grounded Avengers movie would have been ideal to establish a new version of the superhero team. Secret Invasion had the potential to do that, even bringing in past MCU heroes as Skrulls impersonated them and copied their powers. However, given it was a Disney+ limited series, Secret Invasion had to go much lower in terms of scope. Avengers: Siege could be that grounded and gritty movie to set up a new team that Secret Invasion had the potential to be, even connecting to the series’ ending, presenting a refreshing story amid the MCU’s multiverse shenanigans rather than the Kang-heavy Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
