The Hulk yelling at Thor in Thor Ragnarok

Marvel Studios’ rumored World War Hulk project becomes a massive Avengers-level crossover event in an epic fan-made MCU poster. Ever since Thor: Ragnarok explored elements of Marvel Comics’ Planet Hulk storyline, there have been suspicions that Marvel Comics’ World War Hulk could be adapted for the live-action MCU. Issues regarding the Hulk’s film rights have made this difficult, but there may be ways Marvel Studios can work around these problems, and one of these involves adapting World War Hulk as an Avengers crossover movie in the MCU’s future, perhaps even as the new storyline for Phase 6’s upcoming Avengers 5.

Although there has been no confirmation from Marvel Studios about the development of World War Hulk, recent events may have supported speculation that this storyline could be on the cards. Adapting World War Hulk into an Avengers project could avoid rights issues, and this potential event has now been imagined in a fan-made poster shared by soloauthority.

This concept poster depicts several Hulk characters in the MCU going up against 18 of Marvel Studios’ strongest superheroes. Marvel Comics’ World War Hulk features most of the Marvel Universe’s heroes, so this would be the perfect storyline for a future Avengers movie.

Why World War Hulk Would Work Better As An Avengers Movie

The sheer magnitude of Marvel Comics’ World War Hulk event means it would be the perfect storyline to tell in a future Avengers movie in the MCU. 2006’s Planet Hulk event saw the Illuminati exile the Hulk to Sakaar, where the Hulk built a life, overthrew the Red King, and married Caiera. However, Planet Hulk ended with the Hulk’s capsule exploding, killing many Sakaarans, including Caiera. The Hulk swore vengeance on the Illuminati, and thus began World War Hulk. Released between May and November 2007, World War Hulk is one of Marvel Comics’ biggest storylines, so deserves an MCU adaptation.

Avengers 5 was originally titled The Kang Dynasty , but after Jonathan Majors’ arrest and conviction, Marvel Studios has been rumored to be changing the Phase 6 crossover project.

Since Universal Pictures owns the distribution rights to the Hulk, Marvel Studios has been unable to produce a solo project featuring Bruce Banner since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. The Hulk has appeared in a number of MCU projects, nevertheless, some of which have actively set the stage for a World War Hulk adaptation. The Hulk’s ability to explore stories in crossover movies means that World War Hulk could be adapted into an Avengers movie without there being any dispute over the rights, and the foundations have already been laid for Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk to finally go savage in the MCU.

Thor: Ragnarok included elements of Marvel Comics’ Planet Hulk, finding the Hulk on Sakaar, and though not much of his life there has been explored, the time distortions on Sakaar suggest he lived on Sakaar for many years. This was proven when the Hulk’s son, Skaar, appeared in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Skaar made his Marvel Comics debut during World War Hulk, providing another tease towards the event unfolding in the MCU. Only time will tell what the future holds for the Hulk, but turning World War Hulk into an Avengers project may be the best choice for Marvel Studios.
