Even celebrities get starstruck from time to time. Country singer Ashley McBryde shared her most starstruck moment with PEOPLE Magazine. It happened back in 2019 at the Academy of Country Music Awards. That is where the singer met the Queen of Country, Reba McEntire, and she left a lasting impression when she apparently “honked like a goose”.

Sometimes, when we meet our idols it doesn’t go as planned. Sometimes people freeze on the spot, others say embarrassing things. Or sometimes, like in the case of Ashley McBryde, people make unbecoming sounds.

The singer recalled meeting The Queen of Country at the 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards. She told people that “She [meaning Reba] snuck in when I was doing a radio interview, and she got right next to my face and said into the microphone, ‘Hi Ashley McBryde, this is Reba McEntire, and I’m your biggest fan.'”

I mean c’mon, that is enough to make anyone flustered! Ashely told PEOPLE, “I literally honked like a goose at her.” The actual word that she uttered was hi. However the shakiness that accompanied it is what gave it the goose-like quality that Ashley is referencing.

Not Her First Embarrassing Encounter

Ashley McBryde admitted that meeting Reba McEntire was not the only time she did something silly. While she only “honked like a goose” for Reba, she admitted that she often says stupid things around those that she admires.

She told PEOPLE,” I’ve said stupid things to Patty Loveless. I’ve said stupid things to Morgan Stapleton. I almost said stupid things to [World Champion roper] Jackie Crawford.” Honestly, I understand her. It can be overwhelming to meet your idols and your brain begins to work overtime. You always know the perfect thing to say after the moment is over.

Nevertheless, it is nice to see someone famous have such a relatable and transparent moment. Fans on the internet also supported Ashley and her “embarrassing” moment with Reba.
