Anne Hathaway Says Grandmother Sent Her Signal After She Died

The actors are currently collaborating on an untitled feature directed by David Robert Mitchell.

Anne Hathaway Says She Had A Miscarriage

Anne Hathaway is opening up about her beliefs in astrology – and about receiving signs from family members who have died.

During a recent conversation with Interview Magazine to promote Maisy Stella’s upcoming movie My Old A–, which is in select theaters Sept. 13., Hathaway shared her method for staying on top of her star signs and understanding their meanings.

“I feel like I have a little bit of a cheat because I have an amazing friend who’s an astrologist, so I can ask her what dreams and animal signs mean,” The Princess Diaries actress, 41, tells Stella, 20, with whom she’s also collaborating on an untitled feature film directed by David Robert Mitchell.

While chatting, Hathaway recounted to her future co-star a meaningful experience from her childhood, revealing that when her grandmother passed away when she was 8 years old, she received a meaningful message.

Saying that she believes in signs “big time,” Hathaway says, “My grandma passed when I was eight, and she sent me a sign. I hadn’t thought about it in a really long time until I was telling someone about it, and then a few hours later I got my first one from her in ages.”

Hathaway didn’t publicly specify what the sign was, though she told Stella she would share it with her “over text,” adding: “I’ll send you a picture of it, actually.”

Stella echoes Hathaway’s belief in signs, saying in their conversation, “I believe in signs more than anyone has ever believed in signs. My whole family, we’re all little witches. My mom was very spiritual and her favorite saying was, ‘Whatever you feed grows.’ I was taught to look for signs in my life to help guide me, and I felt so many signs in regards to My Old A–. I did a lot of writing before I had booked it, literally begging the universe to let me work with [actress and director Megan Park]. I felt so confident that we would end up holding hands at some point in our lives.”

In August, Hathaway also opened up about her personal life, sharing a relatable selfie to her Instagram feed, where she rocked two star-shaped pimple patches.

“Stars, they’re just like us ⭐️,” Hathaway captioned her post, which showed her sitting in a vehicle wearing a denim hat and sunglasses.

Anne Hathaway attends "The Idea Of You" Screening & Conversation at 92NY on April 28, 2024 in New York City.

Earlier this year at the The Idea of You premiere in New York City on April 29, Hathaway spoke to PEOPLE about how grateful she is for her family, including her children — sons Jonathan, 8, and Jack, 4 — who she shares with husband Adam Shulman. The actress also said she drew on her love for her own children to play Solène, an art gallery owner who begins a relationship with a younger boy band star.

“I don’t think it’s necessary to be a mother to play a mother. I think that should be open to lots of different actors,” Hathaway told PEOPLE. “But for me, in terms of understanding the depth of love that you can feel for this person and what you would be willing to do, I felt like it allowed the love for Hayes to be even bigger for Solène because she loves her daughter more than anything.”

She added: “I mean, we love our children beyond words and for her to choose her daughter over him, I don’t know, it just made their love that much more important.”
