Angel Reese Loses WNBA Record

Angel Reese's record WNBA double-double streak ends vs. Liberty

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has broken many different records throughout her first season in the WNBA, including the most consecutive double-doubles and the first player ever to record 20+ rebounds in consecutive games.

But the most impressive record Reese broke was the most rebounds in a single season with 446, which she set on September 6 against the Los Angeles Sparks. After that game, Reese announced that she had suffered a season-ending wrist injury.

However, on Tuesday night, less than two weeks later, Reese’s brand-new rebounding record was broken by Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson.

Midway through the first quarter of the Aces battle with the Seattle Storm, Wilson picked up her 447th rebound of the season, setting the new WNBA rebounding record.

For Wilson, it took 38 games to reach this amount of rebounds, but Reese only needed 34. Not to mention that Reese (32.5) played two fewer minutes per game than Wilson (34.4).

Even with Reese’s domination on the boards, Wilson, a former South Carolina star, has had one of the best WNBA seasons we’ve ever seen. Not only does she hold the single-season rebounding record, but she owns the single-season scoring record as well. With her play, Wilson has become the clear frontrunner to win what would be her third WNBA MVP award.

Despite only holding the record for 11 days, the feat by Reese was still impressive. Had she not missed the final six games of the season for the Sky, the rebounding record would likely still be hers.
