Moon Knight’s Blu-ray release has caused speculation that Marvel Studios may be developing a second season, which could solve several MCU mysteries.

Recent speculation suggests that Marvel Studios may be developing Moon Knight season 2, and the series’ continuation could answer unsolved mysteries from Phase 4 of the MCU. Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight premiered on Disney+ on March 30, 2022, and ran for six episodes, exploring the story of Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector, a mercenary with dissociative identity disorder who is also the avatar of Egyptian God Khonshu. Khonshu forges Spector into the vigilante Moon Knight, who comes into conflict with Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow. Despite being one of the Multiverse Saga’s most popular additions, Moon Knight’s MCU future is still unclear.

Although Marvel Studios is yet to confirm the development of Moon Knight season 2, recent updates have spurred theories that the series may indeed continue. In March 2024, Marvel confirmed that both The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Moon Knight will be released in 4k UHD and Blu-ray, both labeled as The Complete First Season. The fact that First Season has been specified, differing from WandaVision’sThe Complete Series, suggests that Moon Knight season 2 may be on the cards. The continuation of Marc Spector and Steven Grant’s story could finally answer some burning questions from the first season.

Khonshu turning Marc Spector into Moon Knight

Throughout Moon KnightMarc Spector and Steven Grant demonstrated several impressive abilities granted to them through their deal with Khonshu, such as healing from serious injury and even turning back the night sky. Other avatars of the Egyptian Gods also displayed some brilliant gifts, but it remains unclear exactly what powers these godly figures actually have, unlike the MCU’s Asgardian and Wakandan gods, whose powers have been quite clearly explained. Moon Knight season 2 could explore the mythology of the Ancient Egyptians much further, perhaps introducing new gods, different avatars, and showcasing even more visually stunning feats of sheer power.

8. Will Bushman Make His MCU Debut

Bushman Is Moon Knight’s Archenemy In Marvel Comics

Moon Knight’s archenemy in Marvel Comics is Bushman, a.k.a. Raul Bushman, Marc Spector’s former mercenary partner who leaves Spector for dead, enabling Khonshu to strike a deal with him. Bushman didn’t make an appearance in Moon Knight season 1, though he was teased, as Marc Spector’s origin story as Moon Knight stayed somewhat faithful to the Marvel Comics source material. The seeds were planted in Moon Knight for Bushman to debut during season 2 and battle the Fist of Khonshu, providing Moon Knight season 2 with a grounded and personal threat, which would contribute to the series’ continuing gritty nature.

7Are The Ennead Gods Actually Dead?

The Death Of Moon Knight’s Gods Would Surely Have A Huge Impact On The MCU

Ennead God avatars in Moon Knight

In Moon Knight’s finale, Arthur Harrow killed the avatars of the Egyptian Ennead Gods in order to free the Goddess of Judgment, Ammit, from her prison. Casting judgment on the Gods, Harrow seemingly killed them all, though it’s disputed whether the actual Gods were killed, or just their human avatars, which they use to communicate. Considering that the Ennead Gods don’t seem to physically leave their avatars’ bodies, it’s possible they are truly dead, which will have a huge impact on the Egyptian Pantheon, so the aftermath of this massacre could be interesting to explore in Moon Knight season 2.

6. What Happened Between Arthur Harrow & Khonshu?

Arthur Harrow Was Khonshu’s Previous Avatar

Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow in Moon Knight

Over the duration of Moon Knight, Marc Spector and Steven Grant learn more about Arthur Harrow, the mysterious follower of Ammit. Harrow reveals that he was the previous avatar of Khonshu, and his last Moon Knight, though despite knowing a great deal about the Egyptian God, and displaying a bitterness towards him, Harrow’s relationship with Khonshu wasn’t really explored in any detail. This could be prime ground for Moon Knight season 2’s storyline, as not much about the mythology of the Fist of Khonshu has yet been revealed, so focusing on a previous holder of the title could be exciting.

5. Are Ammit & Arthur Harrow Really Dead?

Ammit & Arthur Harrow Were Seemingly Killed In Moon Knight’s Post-Credits Scene

After epic final battles between Moon Knight and Arthur Harrow, and between Khonshu and Ammit, Marc Spector and Layla El-Faouly trap Ammit’s spirit inside Harrow’s body, and have Harrow incarcerated in a mental institution. However, even though Spector and Grant believed their deal with Khonshu to be done, a mysterious third alter released Harrow from his imprisonment and shot the villain, seemingly ending both Harrow and Ammit. If Arthur Harrow’s judgment of the Ennead Gods killed them dead, the same could be said for Harrow and Ammit, but this can be more clearly explained in Moon Knight’s potential season 2.

4. Is Layla El-Faouly Still A Superhero In The MCU?

Layla El-Faouly Became The Avatar Of Taweret In Moon Knight Season 1

Layla El-Faouly as the Scarlet Scarab in Moon Knight

Moon Knight’s finale saw a new superhero burst onto the scene, as May Calamawy’s Layla El-Faouly, Marc Spector’s estranged wife, became the avatar of the Egyptian God Taweret, and transformed into the Scarlet Scarab. As the MCU’s first Egyptian superhero, the Scarlet Scarab would be an incredibly powerful asset to future Avengers teams and storylines in Moon Knight season 2, but May Calamawy hasn’t yet been confirmed to be returning to the MCU. It’s very likely that, if Moon Knight season 2 does happen, Layla El-Faouly’s Scarlet Scarab will return, but only time will tell if this comes to fruition.

3. Will Moon Knight Team Up With Other MCU Heroes?

Moon Knight Could Join The MCU’s Midnight Sons

Following the introduction of several supernatural MCU heroes, speculation has been rising that Marvel Studios may soon be bringing together a team such as the Midnight Sons. Moon Knight season 2 could be the perfect place for this team to form, better connecting Moon Knight to the MCU’s wider world, while establishing a new team powerful enough to fight alongside the Avengers in Phase 6 and beyond. Moon Knight’s dark and violent themes fit the bill perfectly for the Midnight Sons, and he could be a powerful addition alongside the likes of Blade, the Black Knight and Werewolf by Night.

2. Was Marc Spector In Latveria?

Some Theorized That Latveria Appeared In Moon Knight Season 1

Steven Grant potentially in Latveria in Moon Knight

During Moon Knight’s premiere episode, Steven Grant wakes up suddenly and finds himself somewhere in Europe. He looked down on a village of brown-roofed buildings, standing in front of a castle, and surrounded by mountains. This landscape is strikingly similar to the depiction of Latveria in Marvel Comics, spurring theories that the home Kingdom of Doctor Doom may have already been seen in the MCU. Moon Knight and Doctor Doom’s potential connection in the MCU is unclear, but this would be fantastic to explore in Moon Knight season 2, particularly with Doctor Doom rumored to appear in the MCU soon.

1. Who Is Jake Lockley?

Jake Lockley Was Teased Throughout Moon Knight Season 1

Oscar Isaac as Jake Lockley in the final moments of Moon Knight

Throughout Moon Knight’s first season, the existence of Marc Spector’s third alter was teased relentlessly. Three reflections would appear in each mirror image, a mysterious sarcophagus showed up in the Duat, and some of the series’ most violent moments were hidden from both Spector and Grant. Jake Lockley finally made his debut in Moon Knight’s mid-credits scene, which saw him shoot Arthur Harrow without hesitation. Lockley still has a deal with Khonshu, while Spector and Grant have renounced the God, setting up some major storylines that must be revisited in a potential Moon Knight season 2 in the MCU’s future.
