In XO, Kitty, Kitty is in her junior year of high school, making her around 16 (though her father references her as 17 later) years old, the same age Lara Jean was in the first film. Kitty is still the same quirky younger sister, which is best showcased during her presentation on why she should be able to move to Seoul to attend KISS. However, she’s also a lot more mature and grounded. She still believes in love but has a more logical approach as she is still discovering who she is and who she wants to date.

Since To All Of The Boys I’ve Loved Before: Always and Forever ended, Lara Jean has gone off to college and, according to Kitty, is still with Peter, just like they planned at the end of the third movie. Kitty and Dae have also remained together even though they never saw each other again in person since they met on Kitty’s family trip to Seoul when she was about 12 years old. Eldest sister Margo now lives in London after having gone to college in Scotland in the original movie trilogy.

The timeline of the To All The Boys movies and XO, Kitty do not entirely line up. The final movie in the franchise sees Lara Jean and her friends as the “class of 2021” and early episodes of XO, Kitty reference the year being 2022 (when the series was filmed), which would indicate the two take place just one year apart. Instead, however, Dae and Kitty make it clear the series is set four years after they first met.
What Happens In XO, Kitty Season 1
Kitty Searches For Love And Her Mother

When the first season of XO, Kitty kicks off, Kitty has grand plans for her time at boarding school. Fresh off the information that her mother attended boarding school in South Korea for a year when she was in high school, Kitty pitches attending the same school to her father and Trina, complete with powerpoint, visual aids, and a lot of enthusiasm. While it is made clear that Kitty desires to feel closer to her mom, it is also made clear that Dae attends the same school and Kitty would finally get to date him in person.

While her love life is in turmoil, Kitty begins to connect with her mother, finding the places and people her mother photographed during her time there. She also uncovers that her mother’s name was used by her high school friend to have a baby and place him up for adoption. That high school friend is Yuri’s mother, adding even more drama to Kitty’s life.
Throughout the season, Kitty eventually learns the truth and makes friends with her roommates. She and Dae work through their problems and date before Kitty realizes that, while Dae might be her first love, she has also developed feelings for Yuri, and she finds them difficult to ignore. Min Ho, one of Dae’s best friends, also falls for Kitty, and chooses to tell her as she is on a plane bound for home after being expelled for living in the boys’ dorm.

XO, Kitty season 2 begins with Kitty getting to return to KISS for another semester after Yuri convinces her mother that it is not fair to expel Kitty if her roommates are not being expelled as well. While Kitty spends the semester discovering what it means for her to be bisexual by attempting a casual relationship with Praveena, she also tries to explore her feelings for Yuri.
Though Kitty ultimately remains single for the duration of XO, Kitty season 2, there are plenty of teases about what her romantic future could have in store for her.
Kitty’s romantic entanglements, however, do end up mixing up the entire friend group for a large portion of the season.
Yuri and Juliana break up, partly because of how insecure Juliana feels about Yuri and Kitty becoming close while she is gone. Dae and Min Ho end up on the outs when Dae finds out that Min Ho told Kitty he had feelings for her last season. Dae does, however, find a new relationship with Eunice, who shares his interest in music and singing. Min Ho ends up in a relationship with someone who is really out to sabotage his father, making for a lot of dramatic twists and turns for all of the couples throughout the season.

If the relationship drama and the family drama is not enough for the spring semester at KISS, there is also plenty of academic drama. Min Ho’s father joins the faculty as the new advisor for the arts program at the school. His accompanying donation to the school helps alleviate any doubts about his program, which is really geared toward creating a new K-pop star. While Kitty and some of her friends take the music management courses, Dae and Eunice are enrolled in the vocal courses, and even end up competing to become a pop star.
Though Kitty ultimately remains single for the duration of XO, Kitty season 2, there are plenty of teases about what her romantic future could have in store for her. There are also plenty of teases about her exploring her matchmaking skills with her newfound family members. XO, Kitty season 3 definitely has room to explore Kitty’s connections to her roots and Korean culture amid all of the friendship and relationship drama.
