Voldemort has a mysterious child and everyone is making fun of him and the mother’s identity is revealed

Harry Potter fans roast Voldemort's secret child, and we honestly get it

It just doesn’t make any sense

In the world of Harry Potter, a series already brimming with lore, some details just aren’t necessary.

This isn’t just us nitpicking unfairly, other fans feel this way too, especially when it comes to Voldemort’s secret child.

For those who haven’t bothered with Harry Potter since the first seven books ended, Voldemort does indeed have a child.

Their child, named Delphini, is the antagonist of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, born from a moment shared between Voldemort and Bellatrix.

The reason this doesn’t sit right with the majority of the fandom is because so much of the lore suggests Voldemort didn’t give a damn about anyone other than himself and his end goal.

User fech1999 suggests as much in their post on r/harrypotter.

“I’m relistening to the sixth audiobook, and Dumbledore makes it pretty clear that old Voldy didn’t care about his followers in the slightest,” they said.

“They were merely tools for him to carry out his war. Yet, we’re supposed to accept the fact that he at some point decided to enter a ‘deeper’ relationship with Bellatrix? Even if you say that he only did it to produce an heir, it still doesn’t make sense.”

They’re not alone in this line of reasoning.

“I completely agree,” commented rachelgraychel. “I also got the impression from the books that Voldemort was asexual. He obviously didn’t love Bellatrix, but he never showed any indication whatsoever of having lust either.”

Other responses are much more scathing.

Redditor crazyira-thedouche posted, “Honestly I’m sorry but the whole play is basically trash fan fiction and I hated every moment of it.”

While Voldemort’s child is the main gripe, so too is the “bastardisation” of several characters, including that of the Dark Lord.

As a result, many try to justify Cursed Child being canon by simply accepting it exists and then moving on.

“I’ve accepted that the play is canon in the Harry Potter universe in the sense that the play itself is literally in the universe,” the_box_man_47 shared.

“Some witch or wizard wrote a play about this legendary, beloved wizard to honour his legend. At least that’s the only way I can accept it.”

We all do what we must to come to terms with lore that should never have been added in the first place.
