This Morning viewers were left emotional during Thursday’s care home crisis segment.
ITV viewers fought back tears as This Morning aired “distressing” care home footage on Thursday (February 20).
During today’s edition of the hit morning show, hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary spoke to the Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey, about the current care home crisis.
They also welcomed Clare Miller to the sofa after her mum, Ann King – a dementia patient – was reportedly subjected to months of abuse at the Reigate Grange care home in 2022.
A secret camera that Clare had installed in her mother’s room seemed to expose staff misconduct at the Surrey care facility.
Before speaking to Clare, Alison and Dermot warned viewers that they were about to show some of the footage – which wasn’t aired in the studio.

The distressing clips showed the care staff handling Ann roughly, causing her to cry in distress. She was also taunted, mocked, and sworn at when she was confused and frightened.
“The first moment we realised there was something really not right was when my brother found a male carer on the floor of her room, and my mum was absolutely terrified,” Clare later explained.
“We’d already had problems, which we’d gone to the authorities for, the council, and a safeguarding investigation was put in. This was just the icing on the cake. We weren’t getting any honest answers from the home. They were hiding, denying, and lying about things.”
After reviewing hours of footage, Clare was heartbroken to learn the extent of the abuse, admitting: “It broke my heart, I will never forget it.”
This Morning viewers quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their distress during the segment, with one writing: “Just awful.”
“That is horrific,” another added, while a third said: “The clip of carers abusing that poor lady whilst they’re paid to CARE for her makes me rage.”

A fourth fan echoed the sentiment: “That is so f****** distressing to watch, horrific.”
Surrey police were called to investigate the footage of Ann’s care back in 2022. One care worker was fired, while two others resigned when confronted with the allegations.
Signature Senior Lifestyle, the company that ran the care home, apologised to the family and insisted that the “reprehensible” behaviour was “committed by rogue individuals”.
“The behaviour of the individuals concerned was reprehensible and fell far short of the standards of care we provide our residents every day. We would like to again apologise to Mrs King and her family, and reassure our community that these actions were committed by rogue individuals,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
Signature has since waived £9,800 in outstanding fees and offered £5,000 in compensation “in full and final settlement of all and any claims” they make about Ann’s care. The family has rejected the compensation.
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
