The Tank vs Shakur match is expected by many people: The date will be announced

Gervonta 'Tank' Davis

Tank vs Shakur is highly anticipated, with an impending potential matchup.
Both fighters have upcoming defenses in early 2025, leaving room for a fight later in the year.
Tank and Shakur have opposing boxing styles, making a fight difficult to predict.

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Shakur Stevenson have ruled the lightweight division together since the start of 2023. Shakur is the current WBC World Lightweight Champion and Tank is the current WBA World Lightweight Champion.

Tank vs Shakur is one of the most highly-anticipated fights in boxing right now, as fans want these two undefeated champions to stop taking on easy opponents and test themselves as each other. Given the timeline, there’s a very good chance that these two already-rivals will finally face off in 2025.

Both Shakur and Tank Have Defenses In Early 2025

They Will Be Available To Box Around the Same Time After Their Fights

Tank and Shakur will be making their world title defenses around the same time in early 2025.
The two have a window to time anywhere from late-2025 to early-2026.
It seems like the perfect time for these undefeated fighters to finally take each other on.

Shakur will defend his lightweight title against 18-0 challenger Floyd Schofield on January 22nd, as he looks to take his own undefeated record to 23-0. It will be his second defense since winning the WBC title.

Tank will defend his WBA title against 25-1-1 Lamont Roach just over a week later on March 1st. He has held his world title since 2019, and has been dominating the lightweight division much longer than Stevenson.

Since both of these fighters are having their first defenses in 2025 around the same time, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that they could have a showdown later this year. Tank has historically only fought once a year as of recently due to his status, though this may change considering how early in 2025 he is fighting.

Tank and Shakur Have Gone At It On Social Media

The Two May Be Closer To An Agreement Than Fans Think

Tank and Shakur have shared words on social media on numerous occasions.
Tank believes Shakur wouldn’t be a challenge for him.
Shakur has claimed that there is a tougher matchup out there than Tank.

Tank and Shakur have called each other out on numerous occasions, and even confronted each other on Twitter just last year. Following this, Tank made the claim that Shakur would be an easy fight for him, though he did say that the fight should happen.

Shakur responded to this by stating that Tank is overlooking him and that he’ll be in for a ‘rude awakening’. Just months following this altercation, Shakur called out Tank once more, but also stated that he believes William Zepeda would be a tougher matchup for him.

Given the number of times that these two have gone back and forth on the internet, 2025 could be the perfect time for them to finally step inside the ring together.

If these two were to fight, it would be a clash of very different boxing styles, which makes it a difficult fight to predict. A majority of fans would pick Tank to win, and he would certainly be the favorite, but there is still a decent chance he won’t beat Shakur.

Shakur is a technical and defensive-minded boxer who has mastered the art of avoiding his opponent’s punches. Unfortunately, this has led to fans viewing Stevenson’s fights as ‘boring’, as he does not engage as much and prefers to fight as precisely as possible.

Tank, although also evolving into a technical wizard, can be considered a power puncher. He thrives on pressure and is a very aggressive boxer, which is the opposite of how Shakur fights. He has also turned into a great counter-puncher, though that’s a skill that may not be much use against a boxer like Shakur.

This will definitely be a close fight, but considering that Tank has dominated many of his opponents with ease, it would be hard to bet against him. Shakur will likely be Tank’s toughest test as his defense is much better than anyone he’s fought before, but Shakur himself has also not faced a boxer nearly as aggressive as Tank.
