The Summer I Turned Pretty creator and author Jenny Han teases season 3’s release window. The popular Prime Video adaptation, based on creator Han’s novel trilogy of the same name, focuses on Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) and what happens once she finds herself in a love triangle with two brothers: Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). Even though The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 was renewed in August 2023, new episodes have been delayed by the writers’ and actors’ strikes, which impacted filming across Hollywood. But the wait may soon be over.

In a post on Instagram, which was timed to the holidays, Han hinted that the show’s return will feature a Christmas episode. In the caption of the post, which is included below, Han also teases season 3 will be released in summer 2025. The author wrote: “Can’t wait to spend Christmas in Cousins with you guys this summer.” This would maintain a tradition for the series of holding true to its title, despite the long delay, as previous seasons have similarly released in the summer months.

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 finale is a big step for the series, with Belly and Conrad finally coming to terms and going their separate ways. Although Conrad has accepted that he may not be the one to end up with Belly, it’s a difficult thing for him to process. It was only one episode before the finale that the trio were in an awkward position and seemingly unsure of how to move forward.

The upcoming season will have 11 episodes, an increase from eight episodes.

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will adapt Han’s third and final novel in the trilogy, which is titled We’ll Always Have Summer. The story takes place two years after the events of It’s Not Summer Without You, with Belly again at the center of a love triangle between Conrad and Jeremiah. Given that the Prime Video adaptation has changed content from the source material before, and it’s kept under wraps what the third installment will look like, it’s hard to predict what will come next.

With a cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty that also includes Jackie Chung, Rachel Blanchard, Colin Ferguson, Tom Everett Scott, Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, and Kyra Sedgwick, co-showrunners Han and Sarah Kucserka will have a lot of room to cover. But thankfully, with three more episodes, the hit romantic drama can make up for lost time. Now, it seems that the countdown can slowly begin for the season 3 return, thanks to Han’s new update.
