Bosch: Legacy‘s third and final season will air sometime in March 2025. Amazon haven’t announced an actual date for Harry Bosch’s final outing, but in stark contrast, the third season of Reacher is set for February 20, 2025, with the first three episodes set to drop all at once.

The third seasons of Bosch: Legacy and Reacher are both very exciting, but Amazon are favoring the latter in the lead up to its release. It could be suggested that Reacher‘s release date is being used to bury Bosch: Legacy‘s final season. Both shows have been in the can for several months and could have been released at different times to avoid a clash.

Reacher season 1 was released on February 4, 2022, with all eight episodes dropping at once. Fans had to wait nearly two years for the second season, and this time, a different release pattern was established, which saw a three-episode premiere on December 15, 2023, with the rest of the season airing on a weekly basis until January 19, 2024. The wait for Reacher season 3 is just over a year, as it returns to its February slot, with the finale arriving on March 27, 2025. As for Bosch: Legacy, all fans know is that it’ll arrive sometime in March 2025, which is a first for the spin-off show, after season 1 aired in May 2022 and season 2 launched in October 2023. Bosch: Legacy has never previously clashed with Reacher‘s release date, so why now? 

Bosch: Legacy season 3 is the most important one of all, as it’ll be Harry Bosch’s final solo swansong. Well, Amazon aren’t billing it as that because they plan to use it as a forced handover to the Ballard spin-off. Reacher is a juggernaut, so why is Amazon burying Bosch: Legacy‘s final season in the midst of its run? Bosch: Legacy season 3 has been in the can for many months, so it could have been given a Fall 2024 release, and the chance to take center stage in its final season. It could be argued that it was a conscious decision on Amazon’s part to quietly release Bosch: Legacy in the middle of Reacher‘s much publicized third run.

Amazon Will Coincide The End Of Reacher Season 3 With Promotion For The Ballard Spin-Off With Less Focus On It Being The Final Episode Of Bosch: Legacy

Amazon needs to promote Bosch: Legacy season 3, but its doubtful if they actually will. They haven’t even confirmed a specific release date, while Reacher has had two trailers, and heaps of other promotion ahead of its third season. This will only ramp up even more as the exciting release date gets closer. Will Amazon really give Bosch: Legacy the same focus? Not likely. As for Reacher season 3’s release coinciding with Bosch: Legacy, to put it into context: Amazon wouldn’t release a show like Cross at the same time, would they? Two massive shows like these have been spread out so they can focus on one at a time. This used to be the case with Reacher and Bosch: Legacy, but Amazon’s mindset has changed. It’s all about burying Bosch: Legacy under the inevitable success of Reacher.

By the time Alan Ritchson’s eponymous hero leaves screens in late March, it’ll probably coincide nicely with the standalone final episode of Bosch: Legacy, which will essentially be Ballard‘s backdoor pilot: something Amazon will be more interested in promoting. Bosch: Legacy was never going to be released in the Fall 2024 slot, because that wouldn’t lead directly into the Ballard spin-off in Fall 2025. Amazon are holding all the cards because they haven’t specified exactly when Bosch: Legacy will drop in March. However, rumors suggest it’ll be released in early March, so let’s work upon that hypothesis: If Amazon follows the pattern of Bosch: Legacy season 2, four episodes could drop in the first week of March, with two episodes each over the next three weeks, and that would mean the Renee Ballard focused final episode of Bosch: Legacy would drop in the same week Reacher season 3 finishes. Wow, it’s almost like Amazon planned the demise of Bosch: Legacy all along.
