Jack Quaid, famous for the role of Hughie in the satirical superhero genre The Boys, is now starring in the latest hit, Companion. The sci-fi horror comedy film was released in the U.S. on Jan. 31, and it’s already a major hit with the critics and the audience. Companion debuted with stellar reviews, and it now boasts the two coveted Rotten Tomatoes badges for its stellar ratings of over 90% approval.
The critics awarded the sci-fi horror 94% approval score and the Certified Badge score. The average comes out of 155 reviews, which is a big feat that the film still holds a 90+ score from the critics. Its score also increased as more reviews came in, as it debuted with 91%. The moviegoers also agreed and gave the film an exciting 91% score, which led to the Verified Hot badge on the Popcornmeter.
Companion might have looked like a typical slasher movie, but the film includes an exciting dark twist that makes it even more exciting. Starring Quaid and scream queen Sophie Thatcher (The Boogeyman, Heretic), Companion follows a couple on a weekend getaway, Quaid’s Josh and Thatcher’s Iris, with their friends in a remote cabin. However, it all becomes chaotic when it’s revealed that one of the guests is a companion robot.
The film had a budget of $10 million and has already made just enough in its first weekend for a promising run, on its way to earning $9.5 million (per Deadline). It would need around $20 million to $25 million to start making a profit but its early numbers, alongside its positive reviews, prove it’s likely to make a profit soon.
Companion Continues an Exciting Trend for Jack Quaid
Jack Quaid might be young, but he’s made great choices in his career so far. The Boys actor, who is wearing his nepo baby tag proudly, as he’s Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid’s son, has a great eye for choosing roles. His last “rotten” score was with 2018’s Rampage, which had 51% from the critics, but 72% from the audience. Since then, all his roles have not just gotten positive scores, but all of them received a Certified Fresh badge, whether in live-action or animated projects.
