No one is safe in this universe.
If there’s one thing you can be sure of on The Boys, it’s that no one is safe. Even if there’s no way for a character to die right now, there’s always a chance they’ll be horribly maimed or subjected to torture you’d never expect to see on television. Prime Video has no boundaries for the show, and that is more evident than ever in season 4.
The actors who are now joining the cast have already seen what The Boys is all about and come prepared for whatever happens. Those who came in blind in season 1, however, had their own ideas of where their characters could go, and not everyone was right. Simon Pegg, for example, didn’t even expect Hugh Sr. to make it this far.
Did Hughie’s Father Die on The Boys?
If there’s one character who certainly deserves more, it’s Hughie’s father, played by Simon Pegg. However, any fan of The Boys knows by this point that the good guys never get very far on the show. Hugh Sr.’s longevity was already surprising, but his death may finally be the push Hughie needs to grow up and take a more proactive role.
Whether you didn’t see it coming and were upset about the way Hugh Sr. went, or you’ve been waiting for this moment from the beginning, The Boys will now have to move forward without Simon Pegg. However, the actor has no objections to the script and is simply grateful for the ride this long.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pegg reflected on his journey with The Boys:
“When I did the first season, I thought it was a kind of handoff. A little nod and then at the end, [Hugh] went off into witness protection, I didn’t think we’d see him again. <…> I had no idea either that I would be back or that Hugh would come to such a — well, there’s a lot of gruesomeness prior to it — but the end itself was so tender,” he said.
Perhaps the original Witness Protection scenario that the actor had in mind would have been a much more pleasant finale for his character, but it wouldn’t have brought any important realizations to Hughie. The moment the show ended up going with, on the other hand, will surely stay with him forever and change his perspective on the ongoing battle.
Besides, letting a talent like Simon Pegg go right after season 1 would have been a major mistake, so the show did well to keep him around.
If you can’t wait to see Hughie finally take a stronger stand, be sure to tune in to The Boys every Thursday on Prime Video to see where the show leaves the characters in the season 4 finale.
