The Boys‘ final season welcomes the return of a fan-favorite character as a show regular. The hit satirical superhero series is set to bring back Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy in Season 5 following his Season 4 cameo.

Per Screen Rant, series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed Ackles’ return as a regular for the upcoming season during The Boys‘ panel at San Diego Comic-Con. “He’ll be a regular in Season 5,” Kripke confirmed, as Ackles returns to being a key player on the series like he was in Season 3. Fans were hoping Ackles’ Soldier Boy would have a bigger presence in Season 5 after the character’s Season 4 finale cameo.Soldier Boy holding his shield and smiling, Hughie in the background on The Boys

Ackles’ Soldier Boy is Vought International’s original premiere superhero who generates radiation and possesses superhuman strength. However, Soldier Boy, who was thought to have been killed in the Cold War, was secretly betrayed by his team and captured by the Soviets so Vought could replace him with his biological son, Homelander (Antony Starr). Ackles briefly reprised his role during a mid-credits scene in the Season 4 finale, as a sedated Soldier Boy was visited by Homelander.

Kripke recently hinted at Ackles featuring more prominently in The Boys following his Season 4 cameo. Not only will Ackles appear throughout The Boys Season 5, but he will also portray Soldier Boy in an upcoming prequel series alongside Aya Cash’s Stormfront. Season 5 could see Ackles reunite with a pair of Supernatural alums. Kripke recently teased an on-screen reunion involving Ackles and Jared Padalecki, who recently joined the cast. Additionally, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who debuted in Season 4 as Joe Kessler, expressed his desire to share the screen with Ackles in the final season. Along with his work on The Boys, Ackles also featured in Season 1 of its spinoff series, Gen V.

The Boys Season 5 was recently confirmed as the final season of the button-pushing series by Kripke, who previously hinted at a five-season arc with the show. Season 4 boasts a 93% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though its audience score is easily the show’s worst ever at a “rotten” 53% thanks to apparent review bombing protesting the show’s “woke” nature, something Kripke has addressed.

Prime Video announced it renewed The Boys for a fifth and final season in May, a month before Season 4’s premiere. Fans will have to wait a while to see Season 5 play out, however, as Billy Butcher actor, Karl Urban, teased that the final season won’t debut on Prime Video for another two years. Kripke recently confirmed Season 5 pre-production is ramping up and likes the early concepts being thrown around during development.

Fans can stream The Boys Season 4 in its entirety on Prime Video.
