Fans of Amazon Prime Video series The Boys are getting a little tired of a particular running gag involving Starlight’s powers.

The Boys fans ‘fuming’ at Starlight’s ‘embarrassing’ trend – but there could be a reason

Fans of Amazon Prime Video series The Boys are getting a little tired of a particular running gag involving Starlight’s powers.

The Boys fans have been growing frustrated with the latest season of the hit Amazon Prime Video series as characters refuse to take one character seriously.

Annie January aka Starlight (played by Eric Moriarty) may have beaten Firecracker (Valorie Curry) to a pulp, but members of the Seven and other enemies still don’t see her as a threat.

Starlight has the ability to manipulate light – as well as the power to fly – meaning she could blind her opponents or throw them into darkness instantly, a huge advantage in any brawl.

However, viewers have picked up on a running gag in which the hero’s eyes begin to glow to threaten her opponent before they simply talk her down and she backs off.

One The Boys fan had clearly had enough, posting the latest example in which A-Train (Jessie T Usher) all but laughs her powers off.

Why do they keep doing this bruh,” they asked on X (formerly Twitter) alongside a montage of similar moments.

“They’ve made the s**t a running joke I see why she crashing out & just punching people.”

Many fans agreed the gag was starting to wear thin, taking to the comments and quotes to vent their frustrations.

One viewer replied: “The second hand embarrassment bruh its the way everyone laughs in her face.”

The way no one takes her seriously i need them to put pen to paper and give her SOMETHING,” another commented, adding a crying emoji.

“Her powers being useless becoming a running gag is one of the reasons why I don’t respect this show,” a third user vented.

And a fourth said: “The way they’ve done everything in their power to ensure we never see annie as a threat is crazyyyyy.”

However, others felt the trend is hinting at something deeper happening with Starlight.Antony Starr and Cameron Crovetti

“I do think with ep 4 and 5 of the new season her struggling to be taken seriously as a person and a hero, the constant perception of her being sent one way or another,” one attentive viewer speculated.

“It’s all becoming too much and that’s why she’s splintering. Idk I think it’s on purpose.”

There are still three episodes left of the latest season of The Boys, so there’s still time for the hit comic book series to prove fans wrong
