The Boys Creator’s Insight on Ending the Series and Hints at What Comes Next

The Boys series creator Eric Kripke addressed the future of the superhero franchise, teasing the development of other spinoffs besides Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal’s The Boys: Mexico spinoff. This comes after it was officially announced that the hit Prime Video show had been renewed for a fifth and final season.

During a recent interview with Variety, Kripke was asked how the ending of The Boys would affect the future of its current spinoffs Gen V and The Boys: Mexico. He assured fans that the franchise would continue even if the main series had concluded its run, especially when there are lots of possible stories to explore within the universe of The Boys. “I think they can and should continueThe Boys story is about Butcher and Homelander and these two planets crashing into each other and this particular story doesn’t work without both of them. And you can only keep that going for so long,” he said.

Kripke added, “So what I would say is, this particular story is ending, the Butcher-Homelander is ending. But there can be other stories and other corners of the universe. And hopefully, it’s vibrant and perverted enough to allow for those stories. So hopefully, Gen V continues, hopefully, a couple other things we have in development continue.” The showrunner also confirmed that they currently have more than one project in development. However, they are not ready to announce anything about them yet.

What to Expect From The Boys Season 4?

The Boys Season 4 will feature returning cast members Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Erin Moriarty as Annie/Starlight, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti. They will be joined by The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who is expected to play Butcher’s newest ally. Gen V stars Asa Germann and Maddie Phillips have also been confirmed to reprise their respective roles as the invincible Sam Riordan and telepath Cate Dunlap. They were last seen during the Gen V Season 1 finale, where they led a group of young distraught supes to go on a killing rampage at Godolkin University after freeing them from captivity.

Karl Urban returns as Billy Butcher in The Boys Season 4.

The official synopsis for the next season reads, “In Season 4, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”

The Boys Season 4 debuts this Thursday, June 13.
