After a smash-hit first season on Netflix, the teen romance series XO, Kitty returned for a highly-anticipated season 2 in early 2025. XO, Kitty comes as a spinoff of the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise and sees Anna Cathcart reprise her role as Katherine “Kitty” Song Covey, who travels to South Korea to embark on a journey to find true love. XO, Kitty was created by Jenny Han, author of the books that the To All the Boys movies are based on, and it’s the first Netflix series to be spun off from one of their original movies.

When the first season of XO, Kitty debuted in May 2023, the show was met with positive reviews from critics (via Rotten Tomatoes) as well as impressive viewership numbers (via Yahoo!). Each episode is essentially a half-hour romantic comedy, and with an extensive supporting cast, the series has limitless potential for future storylines. Kitty’s love life is only going to get more complicated, especially after the cliffhanger ending of XO, Kitty season 1. Unsurprisingly, Netflix has wasted no time renewing XO, Kitty for a second season.

Kitty’s Return Polarizes Critics

After an almost universally well-reviewed debut, XO, Kitty season 2 was surprisingly polarizing. While some reviews (like the one from Screen Rant) gushed about how fun and “infectious” the show’s energy is in the sophomore outing, others were sadly disappointed. The AV Club was less impressed with the second season, accusing it of being a bit overstuffed which left many of the most important threads to take a back seat to a host of new characters. Though Decider gave the series an emphatic “Stream it” score, they nevertheless echoed many of the sentiments seen in less positive reviews.

Leading the cast of XO, Kitty season 2 is, of course, Anna Cathcart who reprised her role as matchmaker Katherine “Kitty” Song. Joining Cathcart is Minyeong Choi as Dae, Kitty’s long-distance boyfriend, Gia Kim as Yuri, and Sang Heon Lee as Min Ho. Furthermore, Anthony Keyvan came back as Q, while Peter Thurnwald returned once again to play Alex alongside Regan Aliyah as Juliana.

Several newcomers joined the sophomore season in recurring roles, like Audrey Huynh (Wyrm) as Min Ho’s new beaut Stella, while Sasha Bhasin (Brave the Dark) plays Praveena, one of Kitty’s romantic flings during season 2. Finally, Joshua Lee (Gangnam Project) was tapped to play Jin, a rival for Q.

Noah Centineo as Pete in XO Kitty season 2

In anticipation of the show’s return in January 2025, Netflix dropped a full trailer for XO, Kitty season 2, just before the end of 2024. Reeling from her exciting first semester at KISS, Kitty clearly hasn’t gotten over the emotional roller coaster. Nevertheless, she returns to the institute with renewed resolve to learn more about her mother and get out there into the dating scene. Unfortunately, lingering feelings from the past make it hard for her to move on, but a well-timed pep talk from Peter (Noah Centenio) gets Kitty back in her groove.

Even as Kitty solves other people’s problems, she can’t seem to resolve her own

There were quite a few storylines for XO, Kitty season 2 to explore, and the ending of the sophomore outing did a decent job of wrapping up some of the bigger angles. Unsurprisingly, things worked out for Kitty in the end, even if they didn’t work out the way the natural matchmaker hoped they would. Shows like XO, Kitty aren’t going to take big swings with shocking twists, so the finale is predictably heartwarming with an eye toward the future as well. Even as Kitty solves other people’s problems, she can’t seem to resolve her own.

Though season 2 did a decent job of wrapping up most of its major storylines, it also left the door wide open for a third season. With Kitty’s time at KISS still ongoing, and her romantic interest still unresolved, XO, Kitty season 3 has a lot to work with. A new major conflict will probably be introduced, but the heart of the show will always be Kitty trying to solve other people’s problems while ultimately struggling to take her own advice.
