Stella’s suspicious behavior in XO, Kitty season 2 has finally been explained

Kitty from XO, Kitty is surrounded by circles

Stella’s suspicious behavior in XO, Kitty season 2 ends in a climactic plan to get revenge on one character on the Netflix show. When Kitty Song-Covey returns to the Korean Independent School of Seoul, she can’t foresee the K-drama events of her second semester. XO, Kitty’s new characters round out her friend group and help add drama. One of the most perplexing new characters is Stella, a Korean-American attending the school and living in Kitty’s dorm.

She introduces herself to the group as a homeschooled Christian teen named Stella, who’s just so happy and grateful to be at KISS. However, the end of XO, Kitty season 2, episode 1 sets the tone for her character arc. This reveals that she’s going by a different name, angry at her parents, and her nice-girl act is a facade. The title of the song playing in the XO, Kitty scene, “BIBI Vengeance,” also foreshadows her nefarious ways. However, Stella’s complete plan and motivations don’t become clear until the second half of the season.

Stella has a secret history with Mr. Moon in XO, Kitty season 2 that stretches back to her time in middle school when she auditioned for Rising Stars with Young Moon. At this time, she was a homeschooled Christian preteen named Esther Shim, who wore frumpy clothes, glasses, and long hair in pigtails. There’s nothing wrong with how she looks, but she doesn’t have the conventionally attractive style that society expects out of performers. Unfortunately, her appearance becomes her downfall in the audition. She sings a beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace,” giving Mr. Moon goosebumps.

After seeing the other bad behavior that MoonLeaks exposed, Mr. Moon should face some kind of accountability, as Stella’s humiliation clearly wasn’t an isolated incident.

However, the music producer tells Stella that she doesn’t have the look to be a singer, rejecting her from the show. She starts bawling her eyes out, crying, “But beauty is supposed to come from within.” The show aired this moment on TV, and the internet started bullying Stella. They turned her emotional breakdown into a meme, mocking her for her reaction. This incident and the fallout are the reason why Stella wants vengeance on Young Moon. The criticism of her appearance is also why she changes her name, cuts her hair, gets new clothes, and gets a nose job.

When Stella starts her XO, Kitty romance with Min Ho, she’s already behaving sketchy, but it’s unclear that she has anything against Mr. Moon. However, her suspicious behavior increases throughout the first half of season 2. Stella snoops around and inserts herself into Min Ho’s relationship with his father. She even breaks into Mr. Moon’s office at the ski cabin under the guise of proving to Min Ho that his dad loves him. However, her plan soon becomes apparent when an anonymous Instagram page called MoonLeaks gets forwarded to everyone in school. The account asserts the following:

Mr. Moon’s sales are declining.
Former trainees claim Mr. Moon bullies his employees.
Mr. Moon intentionally casts bad singers on his reality TV shows to create drama and embarrass them.
Mr. Moon uses NDAs to hide his bad behavior.
Employees claim he overworks the people at his company.
Mr. Moon is facing multiple lawsuits.

Given how he treated Stella, it’s possible he casts people who weren’t conventionally attractive to embarrass them, too. This Instagram account is obviously meant to ruin Mr. Moon’s career – an outcome Stella sees as justice for rejecting her. After seeing the other bad behavior that MoonLeaks exposed, Mr. Moon should face some kind of accountability, as Stella’s humiliation clearly wasn’t an isolated incident.

Even though Stella gathers information on Mr. Moon to get revenge in XO, Kitty season 2, she decides to use it as blackmail after he announces that the talent showcase prize will be a recording contract and an opening act on Joon Ho’s summer tour. She promises to leak Joon Ho’s secret and frame Kitty if she doesn’t win the competition. The vengeful teen saw the recording contract and fame as rightfully hers because of her vocal talent and Mr. Moon’s past wrongdoings. However, the plan involves more steps than just making threats.

Since she couldn’t manipulate all the judges, Stella set out to sabotage her competitors. She found a way to weaken Eunice’s heel so it would break onstage, but Eunice performed through it. She gave laced water bottles to the backup dancers, making them sick. Somehow, Stella also found a way to ruin Dae’s visuals and backing track.

Luckily, Kitty, her friends, and Principal Lee stepped in at the end of XO, Kitty season 2 to help Dae’s performance go off without a hitch. Joon Ho also proposed to his pregnant girlfriend onstage, taking away Stella’s blackmail. Ultimately, Mr. Moon sends Stella home to Ohio in the finale of XO, Kitty season 2 after apologizing for his behavior on the show.
