Prince Harry’s ghostwriter reveals the shocking secret he never opens his book: “Nothing noteworthy”

Prince Harry’s former ghostwriter has “no idea” if the duke has ever read the 2011 book they worked on together, titled “Walking With the Wounded.”

The Duke of Sussex, 40, enlisted the help of author Mark McCrum to pen the foreword for the best-selling book, which centers around four wounded soldiers on an expedition to the North Pole.

But despite working so closely with Harry on the project, McCrum revealed that he’s actually never met the royal.

“When I ghost-wrote for Prince Harry on the best-selling book ‘Walking With the Wounded,’ about four wounded soldiers who trekked across the ice to the North Pole, I didn’t meet him,” McCrum wrote in the Daily Mail.

Instead of meeting Harry in person, the author received videos of the duke in Norway while he was on his way to meet the soldiers.

“In the end I was sent a video of him out on the ice, enthusing about the beauty of the landscape and the bravery of his companions,” McCrum, 67, wrote.

Among the videos McCrum received, one showed Harry submerged in ice whilst decked out in a polar kit.

And while the clip was filmed specifically for McCrum, the author said it failed to provide any helpful insight into the duke’s trek.

“It was recorded just for me but hardly illuminating. The word ‘amazing’ featured a lot, I remember,” McCrum said of the video.

“This was worked up into a thoughtful chapter, which then had to get copy approval from Clarence House.”

And despite all his efforts during the making of the book, McCrum remains doubtful that Harry ever read the final version that hit shelves worldwide.

“Whether Harry read it himself, I have no idea,” he added.

Elsewhere, McCrum compared his ghostwriting process to that of JR Moehringer, who later ghostwrote Harry’s bombshell 2023 memoir, “Spare.”

McCrum suggested that the challenges he faced in 2011 were minuscule compared to that of Moehringer.

“JR Moehringer, who said he was ‘exasperated’ ghostwriting Harry’s memoir Spare, clearly had a tougher challenge and a longer struggle,” he wrote.

The explosive book, which left no stone unturned about the duke’s time at the Firm, became the fastest-selling nonfiction book of all time.

Unsurprisingly, the book’s release resulted in an even bigger rift between the Sussexes and the Windsor clan.
