Peter will be a double agent in ‘The Night Agent’ Season 3 and will marry Rosa, some rumors have been officially confirmed

Netflix‘s highly successful action series, The Night Agent, finally made its return for Season 2 after a two-year hiatus. Having first premiered in March 2023, The Night Agent climbed the ranks to become one of Netflix’s most successful shows, emerging as the third-most-viewed debuting series on Netflix in mere days since its release. The series was instantly renewed for a second season thanks to its glaring success.

The release of Season 2 took longer than expected, owing to the writers’ strike in 2023. However, now that the season is here, it has, similarly to its predecessor, climbed to the top of Netflix’s charts. The new season sees its protagonist, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who foiled an assassination attempt against the President of the US in the previous season, take on the world of global espionage. Peter’s first mission as a Night Agent goes terribly wrong when his cover is blown, and his partner is killed. Entangled in a bigger and more international conspiracy than he envisioned, Peter does what he can to save lives, leading to a season finale that sets up for an intriguing Season 3.

Peter Will Be a Double Agent in ‘The Night Agent’ Season 3

The ending of Season 2 confirms that Peter will take on the role of a double agent in the upcoming season of The Night AgentHaving broken into the UN and stolen information for Jacob Monroe, Peter is taken into custody. However, giving him a chance to redeem himself, Catherine offers Peter the chance of becoming a double agent. Peter is tasked with gaining Monroe’s trust and uncovering Hagan and Monroe’s conspiracies.

Agreeing to the mission, Peter’s decision will take him into a world previously unseen. Whereas audiences were accustomed to seeing Peter in more action-centered situations, it is likely that the new season will see Peter dipping his fingers into the world of mind games. As a double agent, Peter will have to manipulate and deceive while also being covert in his espionage and tackling two villains simultaneously. Given the power battle between Hagan and Monroe themselves, Peter’s new responsibilities will become all the more difficult.

Peter’s new role also sets him up to have a closer relationship with Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola). Despite being a central character in Season 1, Chelsea made just one appearance in Season 2. The character is introduced to viewers as a member of the Secret Service detail for Governor Richard Hagan, who is guaranteed to become the next President thanks to Monroe. While she has no interaction with Peter in the second season, there is a high chance that the characters will interact in Season 3. In working for Monroe and attempting to uncover the conspiracy behind Hagan’s presidency, Peter will likely cross paths with Chelsea, allowing viewers to see how the duo’s relationship has evolved over time.

Peter Will Probably Be Working Off-the-Grid in ‘The Night Agent’

In addition to being a double agent, Peter will likely be working off the grid in Season 3. Catherine emphasizes that Peter’s new mission is top secret. His orders are to expose and destroy, even if what Peter uncovers leads all the way to the Oval Office. However, the mission is a secret even from Night Action, implying that Peter will have limited or no access to government-sanctioned resources or protection. What he is offered in return is for his slate to be wiped clean by Catherine and Mosley.

Peter agreeing to his new mission means that only Catherine and Mosley are aware of his undercover mission. This brings both its unique dangers and difficulties. Working off the record means that if Peter’s mission were to go awry, he would not be offered any protection by the US government. Instead, he would be seen as a traitor, eerily reminiscent of the fate of Peter Sutherland Sr.

Moreover, Peter will have to rely on his own wit and skill in tackling his new mission. With no help from the outside, viewers will see a different but intriguing side of Peter as he grapples with the challenges that his mission will bring. However, Season 2 did show viewers that Peter was capable of handling tough situations on his own. After Alice is killed, Peter goes AWOL, and when Rose finally finds him, it becomes clear that Peter is more than adept at piecing up even the most limited resources to ensure the success of the mission. The ending of Season 2 sets up viewers to see more of Peter’s resourceful lone-wolf side in the upcoming season.

‘The Night Agent’ Will See Rose and Peter’s Relationship at a Standstill

Despite not being a Night Agent or FBI agent herself, Rose played a central role in The Night Agent Season 2. She uses her technological skills to locate Peter even when the FBI is unable to pinpoint his location, and from thereon, she becomes firmly enmeshed in the narrative. While offering emotional and mental support to Peter, Rose also acts as a morality check on him, reminding him to be humane and considerate even in the most pressing situations.

However, the ending of Season 2 alludes to the fact that Rose will not be a part of the upcoming season. Before facing his fate, Peter asks Rose to forget about him, move on, and not wait for his call. Series creator Shawn Ryan has also confirmed (via Deadline) that the matter of whether Rose returns in Season 3 or not is still under debate.

If Rose does not reprise her role, Peter will be deprived of the personal and emotional foundation provided by Rose, and it remains to be seen what this will mean for the mental status of the agent, especially given the burdens of his new mission. Moreover, if Rose is permanently removed from The Night Agent storyline, it also opens the possibility of Peter having a new romantic interest. How and if this is navigated remains to be seen. The Night Agent is streaming on Netflix.
