One of the funniest moments of Reacher season 3 was perfectly reminiscent of season 2

Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher in Reacher

One of Reacher season 3’s most hilarious moments serves as the perfect callback to a funny season 2 scene. For a stoic man who lets his fists do a lot of talking, Jack Reacher is often surprisingly witty. The Amazon Prime Video detective series has often played with this aspect of his character, balancing his no-nonsense persona with some light moments of dry humor. Even when Reacher is not exactly trying to be funny, he often gets caught up in situations that shed light on his unintentional wit.

For instance, it is hard not to chuckle when, in season 1, Reacher almost orders the entire menu when he visits Jolene’s Chicken Shack in Margrave while Finlay settles for a spinach sandwich. The opening episodes of Reacher season 3 are also jampacked with similar moments of levity that highlight what makes the Alan Ritchson character appealing. One scene, in particular, is also hilariously reminiscent of a season 2 moment and perfectly captures Reacher’s frugal lifestyle choices.

Reacher Refuses To Leave His Toothbrush Behind In Season 3

His Foldable Toothbrush Is One Of His Most Valuable Belongings

When the feds come knocking on his motel room door in Reacher season 3’s opening episodes, Jack Reacher realizes that something is not right. Therefore, to ensure the situation does not escalate, he attempts to flee his room by escaping through the bathroom window. He does not bother collecting any belongings from his room. Instead, he only grabs his foldable toothbrush before heading out of the window. This scene establishes that Reacher’s toothbrush is not only one of his most valuable belongings but also the only material possession he cares to carry with him.

His commitment to carrying his toothbrush even in a dire situation seems reminiscent of the Reacher season 2 scene where he feels bad about the bad guys breaking his valuable toothbrush. Reacher might seem a little too attached to his toothbrush, but scenes like these perfectly capture his unique lifestyle. They show that the character understands the value of even the most ordinary possessions, like a toothbrush, and does not wish to replace them unless absolutely necessary.

Reacher’s Attachment To His Toothbrush Sums Up His Simple Lifestyle

It Shows He Does Not Let Any Material Belongings Weigh Down

Jack Reacher’s attachment to his toothbrush and desire to use it as long as it is still functional serves as the perfect representation of his minimalist and frugal lifestyle. He values utility and practicality over everything else and understands that owning too many things will only hold him back from pursuing his dream of exploring the United States and embracing the open road. Therefore, he carries nothing but a foldable toothbrush with him and makes it a symbol of his freedom and self-sufficiency.

Knowing that he would not accept or need anything else, Dixon also gifted a toothbrush to Reacher in season 2’s ending moments before bidding him farewell.

He sees the toothbrush as the only constant essential he needs during his journeys. Everything else, including clothes, food, and shelter, is secondary and can be arranged. While most people, including his former team members from the 110th Special Investigation Unit, seek comfort and security, the titular character in Reacher prefers autonomy and independence above everything else.
