Kristin Chenoweth implicitly calls anti-gay mothers who encourage people to boycott “Wicked” psychopaths

Wicked spoilers ahead.

Kristin Chenoweth has hit back at claims that Wicked is “pushing an LGBTQ agenda” onto families.

Of course, Kristin famously originated the role of Glinda in Wicked on Broadway, alongside Idina Menzel, who played Elphaba.

Recently, both Kristin and Idina made iconic cameos in Jon M. Chu’s Wicked, which came out last month.

Chu’s adaptation stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, as well as Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero and Ethan Slater as Boq.

Last week, Kristin fiercely defended Chu’s Wicked after the group One Million Moms accused it of “pushing an LGBTQ agenda” onto children and attempting to “normalize same-sex crushes.”

The group wrote online, “Alerting All Parents! One Million Moms needs your help to make sure as many people as possible are aware of Universal Pictures pushing the LGBTQ agenda on families, particularly children, in the musical Wicked.”

“Four of the film’s main characters are openly queer or gay in real life, or at the minimum, these actors have spoken about their queer experiences,” they continued, referring to the fact that Wicked stars Jonathan, Cynthia, Bowen Yang, and Marissa Bode are openly gay.

“Universal has now decided to be politically correct instead of providing family-friendly programming. But Universal should stick to family-friendly entertainment, particularly in children’s films, rather than pushing an agenda,” the group added.

Before long, Kristin hit back at the hateful remarks in an Instagram comment. “Everyone knows the ‘one million Moms’ are a mere few hundred. Maybe,” she wrote alongside an eye-roll emoji.

“It’s called entertainment. Artistry. I am a Christian woman [who] originated the role of Glinda and all the silliness that these women spew out of hate. No no no. I can’t help it : i try to love em anyways. For they don’t get it,” she wrote.

“For anyone who wants to see girl power, then go [see] WICKED. Onstage or in a movie theater,” she added, alongside a string of heart emojis and a laughing face.

Kristin has since received a heap of praise for calling out the group.

“I wouldn’t expect anything less from Ms. Chenoweth to call out this bullshit,” someone wrote.

“You are definitely taking the higher road,” another person replied to Kristin, while one more said, “Thank you for commenting this!!! The OG Glinda, everyone!”

Go Kristin! If you haven’t seen it yet, go see Wicked — it’s incredible.
