Amy Schumer’s comedies always draw strong numbers, even when they’re not a big hit with the critics. Her latest success proves that.

Schumer starred in Netflix’s most recent comedy, Kinda Pregnant, which was released on the platform on Feb. 5. The comedy follows Amy Schumer’s character Lainy, a woman who gets jealous of her best friend’s pregnancy and lies about being pregnant herself, going as far as wearing a fake baby bump. While the baby bump on the comedy is fake, Kinda Pregnant‘s numbers on the platform are as real as it gets, proving the new release is a hit, topping the charts in the U.S. and globally, per Tudum.

Kinda Pregnant dethroned Cameron Diaz’s return film, Back in Action, which spent three weeks at the tops of the charts. Amy Schumer’s fake bump rose to No. 1 with impressive numbers: 25.1 million views and 41.9 million hours viewed in its first week. Netflix further notes the movie became the No. 1 film in 53 countries, the U.S. included, reaching the Top 10 in all 92 countries Netflix is streaming.

Looking how some of Netflix’s biggest recent hits, Back in Action and 2024’s Carry-On debuted with 46.8 million and 42 million, respectively, Amy Schumer’s thrived with 25.1 million views, even if the reviews weren’t stellar.

Aside from Back in Action, Kinda Pregnant beat several animated films like Shrek 1,2, and 3, The Secret Life of Pets 2, as well as 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Menu, and The Sentinel.

Kinda Pregnant Was Not a Hit With the Critics or the Audience

Although people rushed to watch Amy Schumer’s latest comedy, that doesn’t mean they all loved it. At least, not the ones who left a review. On Rotten Tomatoes, the critics and the audience gave the film abysmal scores. Kinda Pregnant has a “rotten” 25% score from the critics out of 28 reviews, and only 23% on the Popcornmeter from the audience.
