Jensen Ackles Ventures into the Heart of Suspense with His Role in an Upcoming Thriller Series, Exclusively Premiering on Prime Video

The Boys star Jensen Ackles will again collaborate with Amazon. The Supernatural actor will lead Countdown, an upcoming Prime Video action-thriller series helmed by Derek Haas.

As reported by Variety, Amazon has given the series a 13-episode order. The studio developed Countdown as a starring vehicle for Ackles, who played Soldier Boy in Prime Video’s hit series The Boys. Haas (OneChicago) created the series, serving as executive producer and showrunner. Amazon MGM Studios is producing the series with Chaos Machine, Ackles’ production company, which is under a first-look deal at the studio.

Per Countdown‘s description, the series begins “following a suspicious murder in broad daylight, which leads to LAPD officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) being recruited to join a secret task force of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement to investigate. But as the truth of a more sinister plot comes into focus, the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.”

Ackles is excited about the upcoming project and his partnership with Amazon. “I had an incredible experience working with the Prime Video team on The Boys and am delighted to be able to continue that relationship on Countdown,” he said. “I simply cannot wait to partner with Derek and the rest of our Countdown family to bring this story to life.”

In addition to his turn on The Boys, Ackles featured in its spinoff series, Gen V, and most recently on the hit CBS show Tracker. However, Countdown marks his first lead role on the small screen since the WB/CW series Supernatural, which ran for a historic 15 seasons, ending in 2020. Ackles also appeared in Season 3 of ABC’s Big Sky. He narrated and executive produced the Supernatural prequel series TheWinchesters.

Jensen Ackles Recently Went Viral With MCU Concept Trailer

No stranger to portraying superheroes, having played Soldier Boy and voiced Batman, Ackles has long been fan-cast as several characters in both the Marvel and DC Universe. Recently, KH Studios posted a concept trailer, imagining the actor as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Johnny Blaze alias Ghost Rider. The trailer blends footage of Ackles as seen in The Boys and Supernatural with clips from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Amazon is yet to schedule a release date for Jensen Ackles’ Countdown. However, there are rumors he will return for Season 4 of The Boys, which premieres on Prime Video on June 13.
