Eminem’s daughter, Hailie Jade, discussed the relationship on her podcast Just a Little Shady
Eminem’s daughter Hailie Jade has opened up on what the rapper was like as a ‘young’ father.
Before he found global fame as world renowned rapper, Eminem – real name Marshall Mathers – was first and foremost a father to his daughter, Hallie Jade.
Born when the rapper was just 23 years old, Eminem has never hidden his devotion to his daughter over the years, writing heartfelt tracks for her such as ‘Hailie’s Song’ and ‘Mockingbird’ in her honour.
Now a grown up herself, Hailie, 28, has often spoken about the bond between her and her father and touched on their relationship during a recent episode of her podcast Just a Little Shady.
Appearing alongside her uncle Nate Samra-Mathers – who is the younger half-brother to the rapper – the pair were discussing Paris Hilton becoming a mother at 41, to which Hailie asked her uncle if he was happy with the age he’d had children at.
Nate explained that he was happy to have had his first child at age 24, with the pair then compared his situation to how Eminem was as a young father.
“It’s kind of like the same thing with Dad,” Hailie began. “Like a lot of people were concerned that he wasn’t going to be a good dad or something. But here we are.”
“He was the best role model I could have had to help me be the dad that I am today,” Nate then replied.
Hailie then went on to say she ‘appreciated’ having young parents, adding: “It is cool when you’re a younger parent because you get a friendship as well with your kids. I always did appreciate that.”

On his most recent album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace), Eminem addressed two heartbreaking songs to his daughter Hailie, as well as Alaina and Stevie, who he also adopted.
On ‘Somebody Save Me’, Eminem addresses his 2007 overdose, which saw him left just ‘two hours from dying’.
He sings the track from the prospective that he had died that day and apologises to Hailie and the rest of his family, sharing a heartbreaking list of all the milestones he would’ve missed if he hadn’t survived the overdose.
Not contend with leaving fans in tears just once, he also wrote a song dedicated to his daughter in the event of his future death, promising her that things will be difficult but ok after he dies.
“Look after Eleana, Stevie and Uncle Nate / And, sweetie, be strong; I know I was your rock, and I still am / Saying goodbye is just not ever easy,” he raps.
“Why you crying? Just stop / Hailie, baby, dry your eyes, this is not forever.”
Fans were, of course, left in floods of tears at the sentimental song, sharing their emotional reactions on social media.
