The 45th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Show

Eminem’s new album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)e Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) was yet another immediate bestseller for the rapper. The full-length debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week, bringing him back to the summit on the ranking of the most-consumed albums in the country–and ending Taylor Swift’s historic run atop the tally.

The Death of Slim Shady has also been hugely successful when it came to singles. Lead cut “Houdini” peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100, narrowly missing out on giving Eminem another champion. Several other tunes from the project reached lofty positions on the same tally, making it a big winner on the charts.

All this success may help Eminem return to the Grammys for the first time in years. The rapper hasn’t been nominated for the biggest award in the music industry in half a decade, and the album he’s stated is the end for an alter ego he created at the outset of his career may be just what he needs to mount a comeback.

The last time that Eminem was up for a Grammy was back in 2019. That year, he and Joyner Lucas’ “Lucky You” earned both of them–as well as other songwriters–a nod in the Best Rap Song category. The prize ultimately went to “God’s Plan” by Drake.

Eminem hasn’t won any gold since 2015. At that ceremony, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 claimed Best Rap Album. At the same ceremony, he and Rihanna also jointly collected Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “The Monster,” one of the biggest singles from the project–and their latest smash together.

The Death of Slim Shady could easily land a Best Rap Album nomination. It might also be a frontrunner for the honor, though Eminem will surely face tough competition from some of the biggest names in the genre.
