Eminem has a smash on his hands with “Houdini,” his recently-released hit single. The tune serves as the first taste of his forthcoming album, and based on its initial performance on the charts in America, it’s clear that the public is not only eager to hear more from the rapper, but also that they’re loving what he’s delivered this time around.
“Houdini” makes a grand entrance on the Billboard charts this time around. The tune debuts on at least a dozen rankings, and it stands out as the top performer on almost all of them.
This week, “Houdini” launches at No. 1 on 10 different Billboard rankings. The tune is new to all the lists it starts on top of, and no matter how it performs from this week, it’s already a sizable commercial success, as it has nowhere to go but down.
“Houdini” misses out on the top spot on the Hot 100, but it does manage to open in first place on two other “Hot” charts. The tune launches atop both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs tallies. Both of those lists use a similar methodology as the Hot 100, as they all focus on total consumption, including sales, streams, and airplay.
After selling 49,000 copies in its first frame of availability, “Houdini” is easily the bestselling track in the country. Eminem returns to the summit on the Digital Song Sales chart for the twelfth time in his career thanks to his new win. It makes sense, then, that the cut would also start atop two other purchase-only rosters, the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and Rap Digital Song Sales charts.
Just as is the case when it came to actual purchases, “Houdini” is the most-streamed single in America. It hits No. 1 on the Streaming Songs list, and it reaches the same position on two genre-specific lists, the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs and Rap Streaming Songs tallies.
“Houdini” wasn’t just a hit in America…though the rapper’s home country does appear to be responsible for the lion’s share of the song’s initial success. Eminem hits No. 1 for the first time in his career on both of the worldwide charts—the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. US.
The same track also arrives on several other Billboard charts, though it will have to wait for another shot at the throne. “Houdini” opens in the runner-up rung on the Hot 100, and it starts at No. 36 on the Rhythmic Airplay list.
