The Weeknd dominates many Billboard charts this week as his new album Hurry Up Tomorrow and a number of tracks featured on it command multiple lists. He’s not running the show on the Hot 100, but he still manages to score quite a few new wins on that tally and make history nonetheless.
A dozen tunes featured on Hurry Up Tomorrow debut on the Hot 100 this week. The Weeknd increases his total career placements on the most competitive songs ranking in the U.S. to 116, which is one of the greatest collections of smashes of all time.
Thanks to his 12 additions to his charting discography, The Weeknd leaps over eight superstars on the list of the artists that have racked up the most hits on the Hot 100. As he advances from 104 to 116 songs, the Grammy winner passes Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, 21 Savage, Beyoncé, Elvis Presley, Lil Uzi Vert, Eminem, and Bad Buddy.
The Weeknd now claims the eleventh-most Hot 100 hits among all acts. He misses out on tying for tenth place with Chris Brown by just two smashes, though he could easily match the R&B pop artist sometime soon.
Drake continues to lead the way in a distant first place among all artists. He’s collected 338 appearances on the Hot 100, and he’s the only musician to have passed the 300 landmark.
Just a trio of other familiar names have crossed the 200-hit milestone. Taylor Swift is up to 264 smashes, rapper Future has collected 219, and the cast of the TV show Glee managed 207 during its heyday. That number stood as the all-time record for many years. In between the Glee cast and Brown come Lil Wayne (187 hits). Ye, formerly known as Kanye West (161), Lil Baby (155), Nicki Minaj (149) and Travis Scott (121).
The Weeknd isn’t the only musician who adds to his historic total this week. Scott is back on the Hot 100 with a new tune, as he is credited alongside Florence and the Machine and The Weeknd on the Hurry Up Tomorrow track “Reflections Laughing,” which opens at No. 53.
