Dr. Dre reveals the exact moment he chose Kendrick Lamar’s side as his teammate in Drake Beef

The legendary rapper famously appeared alongside Lamar during his iconic ‘Pop Out’ concert on Juneteenth 2024.

Dr. Dre attends his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in Hollywood, California, on March 19, 2024.

Dr. Dre may be not be embroiled in any rap beefs of his own anymore, but that’s not keeping him from picking sides in the current ones, namely the one between Kendrick Lamar and Drake that took over most of 2024. And now, he’s sharing the exact moment he knew who to root for.

“The Chronic” revealed as much during the debut episode of Kenya Barris and Malcolm Gladwell’s new podcast, “The Unusual Suspects With Kenya Barris and Malcolm Gladwell.” During their conversation, Barris took a moment to praise Lamar and Dre’s appearance during the show. As we told you during the summertime in 2024, Dre was the surprise guest who showed up to help kick off Lamar’s performance of his hit diss song, “Not Like Us” during his “Pop Out” concert on Juneteenth in Los Angeles.

Speaking to that moment and the beef in it’s entirety, Dre made it perfectly clear that he still stands with Lamar but gave some insight on the exact moment he knew he had to choose sides and ride with the fellow Compton native.

“I love that record,” Dre explained. “I’ma say this on camera. I don’t want to get negative. My whole sh*t is about being positive and moving forward and all that sh*t, but the fact I heard Drake say something negative about Kendrick’s wife and his kids, that made me say, ‘Ah, adios!’”

Kendrick Lamar – Not Like Us

He’s of course referring to the allegations Drake made on a handful of his diss songs—namely “Push Ups,” “Family Matters” and “The Heart Part 6″—where he said Lamar was abusive to his Whitney Alford and that another man had fathered one of their kids.

For Dre, that was the tipping point that made him majorly side-eye Drizzy Drake and put all his backing to Lamar.

This isn’t the first time Dre spoke highly of Lamar and lobbed his support behind him. Shortly after the Juneteenth show, both he and Snoop Dogg praised Lamar for his song and for his successful attempt at bringing unity to the L.A. gang scene.

“I think Kendrick was able to bring that together for that moment. Hopefully that moment can move forward,” he said in part at the time.

Dwyane Wade is getting personal on his podcast, “The Why with Dwyane.” On the latest episode, the former NBA star revealed a recent health scare he experienced, sharing information to hopefully help listeners who could have a similar experience.

On the episode obtained by People, Wade spoke to his co-host Bob Metelus about the “shocking” diagnosis, revealing that he had put off going to the doctor for his physical appointment for “a year.”

Wade recalls having stomach and cramping issues, as well as issues with urination. “’Why is my piss coming out slow, why is my stream ain’t powerful? Why is it a little weak?’” he said he remembers asking. He then explained that a full body scan revealed the tumor on one of his kidneys. “The doctor was like, ‘You need to have kidney surgery,’ he explained.

Wade, after other doctors agreed with the diagnosis, went through with the surgery in December of 2023. They removed 40% of his left kidney and then determined that the tumor was indeed cancerous.

“My own journey to have that surgery, I think it was the first time that my family, my dad, my kids, they saw me weak,” Wade explained on the episode. “That moment was probably the weakest point I’ve ever felt in my life.”

He went on to call the decision to go through with the surgery a “personal” one. “If this is cancerous, if this tumor, this cyst is cancerous, on your kidney, you’re 41 years old, you probably need surgery because it’s something that needs to be removed so it doesn’t spread,” Wade added.

Still, he described finding “strength” in his family, who supported him through it. Wade’s family of course includes his wife Gabrielle Union, and his children Zaire (22) Zaya, (17), Xavier (11) and Kaavia James (6). He also is legal guardian of his nephew Dahveon Morris.

“As a man, you never want your family to see you weak,” he said. “Don’t want to be perceived weak, don’t want to be seen in your weakest moments but I had to.”
