The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 is finally coming in 2025 after an unexpected hiatus due to industry strikes.
Season 3 will have 11 episodes, the most in the series, giving more time to follow the book trilogy’s story.
The main cast, including Lola Tung and Christopher Briney, is expected to return for the highly anticipated season.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is paying off its two-year hiatus with an exciting season 3 change. The Summer I Turned Pretty’s season 2 finale premiered August 18, 2023, on Prime Video, marking eight months and counting until audiences can access its next new season. The coming-of-age romantic drama, based on Jenny Han’s novel trilogy of the same name, was noticeably missing from Prime Video’s 2024 slate, which raised questions about when more of Isabel “Belly” Conklin’s love triangle story would return.

A production update earlier this year promised that season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty would arrive in 2025, cementing a grim two-year hiatus until the series hits small screens again. It’s not uncommon to come in contact with shows with long waits in between seasons in this era of television, as evidenced by shows like Wednesday and Ginny & Georgia. Yet, The Summer I Turned Pretty’s current hiatus is unprecedented, as viewers only waited one year between seasons 1 and 2. Fortunately, The Summer I Turned Pretty is amending its unexpected intermission with something audiences will love.

The Summer I Turned Pretty: Season Three Announcement

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Has More Episodes Than The First Two Seasons

Season 3 Will Have 11 Episodes Total

The Summer I Turned Pretty will have more episodes than ever before, totaling eleven episodes, whereas season 1 only had seven and season 2 had eight. The extension affords The Summer I Turned Pretty more time to follow Han’s culminating novel, We’ll Always Have Summer, if season 3 continues to follow the general trajectory of the book trilogy. On the condition that The Summer I Turned Pretty concludes with season 3, having 11 episodes will ensure the series has the space to tie up all story threads and unanswered questions.

The main cast of the series, including Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, and Jackie Chung, will likely return for season 3.

If the series subverts expectations and burgeons into another season or a The Summer I Turned Pretty spinoff, having 11 episodes would be just as rewarding. The Summer I Turned Pretty’s episode span could then initiate new story threads in Belly’s life or story threads that could be the basis of a spinoff series. It wouldn’t be the first time The Summer I Turned Pretty diverted from the books, and the series’ popularity on Prime Video would warrant it. Regardless of where the series goes, an 11-episode season 3 has great fulfillment potential after such a long wait.

The Summer I Turned Pretty has been delayed for so long, in large part because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, according to The Hollywood ReporterSeason 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty was greenlit ahead of both strikes last year and presumably held up until the strikes’ conclusion, like so many other TV shows and movies that were similarly affected. It wasn’t until late last year that production on The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 started up again – and because it still had to journey through standard stages of production, its hiatus became much longer than expected.

The WGA strike lasted from May 2 to September 27, and the SAG-AFTRA lasted from July 14 to November 9.a
